Gentlemen,

To begin, please allow me to complement your team on the Project Phoenix pack. It is splendid to have my old favorite Battlemechs in this excellent game, where they belong. Speaking for myself, I am quite pleased with the Battlemaster, Thunderbolt, and Locust. However, there is a glaring and obvious problem with the Shadow Hawk.

Like everyone else on the forums, I saw the preview screenshots of the Shadow Hawk. I noted with concern that it seemed to be quite a bit larger than the Centurion. I feared it would be at least as tall as the Thunderbolt; and mostly as massive.

Most of my fellow MWO players calmly reserved judgement; perhaps it was merely bad camera angles. Poor mech placement. Perhaps it was really only a little big.

I have now played the Shadow Hawk and it's fellow Phoenix 'mechs since the patch went live today. After that experience, with my own Shadow Hawk and team-mates, I must point out to you that the 'mech as modeled is unacceptably large.

I am obliged to point out that I was sold the Shadow Hawk - and the Wolverine and Griffin of Saber - based on their concept artwork. As delivered, the Shadow Hawk deviates quite a lot from its concept art. This is the image upon which I based my purchase:

And these mechs are the product I expected to be delivered.

This is not a Quickdraw; this is not a free-to-play 'mech which I could simply obtain at my leisure. The Shadow Hawk is premium content directed to your most profitable player base. You have an obligation to deliver a product that meets our the expectations of that player base. As one of those players, please allow me to recommend the following courses of action.

1. Please post an acknowledgement that there is a size problem with the Shadow Hawk; and that actions will be taken to correct it as soon as possible. (Immediately would be great, but as part of a general tweaking of model sizes in a few weeks - along with other afflicted mechs - would do).

2. Please acknowledge and explain to us why the PP mech's skins are incorrect. Decals and text clearly shown in the concept art is not present. It is possible that this deviation is due to an upcoming decal feature and not part of the skin. Please let us know if this is the case. If not, please correct the PP 'mechs to appear as their concept artwork; with numbers, insignia, and text.

3. Please reassure us that the Griffin and Wolverine absolutely will not suffer from the size problems of the Shadow Hawk.

After all, this is what I paid for.

Thank you for your attention and consideration. I appreciate your efforts to redress my concerns as one of your valued core customers.

Scale won't change anytime soon.

You got what you paid for. Your disappointment should have started long before complaining about the Shadowhawk, in the form of the Awesome's scale+hitboxes, and other various mechs that suffer from scaling problems. The Trebuchet does not weep for you either and neither does the Cicada.

The Shadowhawk is fine. It's got a very thin profile that spreads damage very well (though I have yet to not be cored). It feels very durable (not quite Cent durability, but close) and isn't an issue.

Is it a little tall? Maybe, but again, it's very thin, and in cannon, the Shadowhawk has always been rather tall.

PGI has not yet realized that a good chassis isn't the kind or number of hardpoints in MWO. It's their displacement and the size/hitboxes of the chassis that count, let's also add JJ presence as a plus given the movement nerf.

TT/lore dimensions aren't suited for this game, so size is critical to any mech class.

About the OP's Quickdraw statement, I'd like to tell you that even that one is deeply crippled in its size but it's a decent mech and remind that the next month also your shadow-hawk won't be "premium content" anymore so this isn't the point. The point is the whole mess PGI wanted to run into by not restricting the hardpoint sizes and not realizing that scaling/dimension is critical as I already said. And that's the main reason I didn't even considered paying for any of the phoenix mechs, few of them can really have a competitive advantage over what we already have, let's say the Battlemaster, maybe the TB.

It isn't really 'thin' in the same way as a Cent or Spider is 'thin'. And it can be 'tall' without being 'Bigger than the Jager or Tbolt' tall. Being the same height as a cent would make it 'tall' for a medium and it would still be somewhat wider.

It is way to easy to hit a SHD and this is why most of the best SHD builds stay at range to fight rather than getting close. Getting close means you are way to easy to hit and it is simplistic to hit where you want.

I just want some medium-sized Mediums. B)

Other than that, the Shadow Hawk is gorgeous.

They did to late realize that "Scale" matters in a real time 3D Environment while it does not matter in the TT.
Now itt borked until a Billionaire comes or they sell a "Rescale Pack" with any Mech you own but in the right size for a sane gameplay. B)

Sums up most people's opinions. Mine included.

Exactly. My Locust only comes up to the Battlemaster's knee, and it's displayed much bigger in the concept art.

Seriously, the Shadow Hawk in game is pretty much exactly as you see it here, relative to the Thunderbolt, at least: a smidgen lower in cockpit height than the Thud, but not by much, while being narrower front on.

Taken from a Shadow Hawk. Note that the cockpits are almost level, while the missile rack on the Thunderbolt being distinctly above the level of the Shadow Hawk.

On my opinion Shadowhawk is already the best medium there is, as I see no else that will be overall better than it (Except Cicada in speed, but it will count as light). Also Shadowhawk has good hitboxes regardless of it's size, so I think overbuffing it by decreasing the size is a bad idea. Instead the other mediums (like Trebuchet) should be tweaked or buffed.

Currently Shadowhawk is just awesome.

Except the first person perspective is not a very good indicator since cam placement can deviate wildly from the model's cockpit position.

They definitely need to make a scaling pass at some point. Don't think it is the end of the world or anything.

While I agree it's a bit too large. I am kicking butt in this mech.

Total ********, twisting spreads neglible damage in this thing. Hell you are more likely to die by CT coring than ever losing the huge hunch on the Shadow Hawh.. I almost thought it would be the opposite in the way of the easily hit, no damage resistance to the big box like the Hunchback. Never did I once lose my hunch on the Shaq-Lander when twisting.

I dont know. yeah, it's big but somehow I dont get shot in it a lot and I have a rather short range buid. I wouldnt mind them scaleing it down a bit, yeah.

Something with this mechs just says all is good when you are piloting it. Never in the battle have I thought: "Man, I wish I was smaller".

This would be a good TL:DR summary of my post. I concur.

Respectfully, those of you who believe the Shadow Hawk is 'about the same size as a Thunderbolt' need to have a friend driving a 'Hawk stand next to various large mechs on level ground in game. While I cannot be exactly accurate, I believe the photoshopping of the SHD as the same height as a BLR is quite close to correct.

As for the Locust being smaller than pictured; you are correct it varies from the concept art; however, it does not do so in a manner which harms it in gameplay.
