Not sure if this is the correct forum for this or not, but I've been experiencing a consistent increase in my ping in game. SInce beta and up till just a couple days ago, my ping times are generally between 30-50ms, but now they are anywhere from 130-150ms.

I went to my ISP and explained how uncharacteristicly high the pings are especially after playing the game for over a year with the 30-50ms latency. For my entire time of several years being with this ISP (CableOne) i've never had issues with my pings. I've used www.pingtest.com several times throughout my time wiht CableOne and have NEVER had a ping time greater than 50ms with www.pingtest.com--granted i didn't check it EVERYDAY with www.pingtest.com, but I do it occassionaly just to check it for s and g's.

- I have MWO on both a higher end desktop and a low-mid range laptop and they both give me the same general ping times.
- I get the same times with pingtest.net between both computers
- I upgraded my 6 year old motorola Docsis2.0 cable modem to a DOCSIS 3.0 yesterday
- Bypassing my wireless router and directly hardlining into the modem doesn't resolve the issue, ping times in game and with pingtest.net are still unchanged.
- I have a 50mbps down and 3mbps up service, and when not going through my router the down/up rates are where they should be.
- going to command prompt and pinging websites are slightly higher than what I remember (can't say for 100% sure, this is mostly me vaguely remembering)
- spent a solid hour with cableone customer support that they couldn't put their finger on what the issue was, turned me away, I called back explained it again and went through the same diagnostic process and eventually said they'd send out a technician. I'm not holding my breathe on them actually coming out here for this issue.

I'm familiar with command prompt and using ipconfig, ping, and tracert commands, but even with some google search/and attempt of self educating myself on the issue to help diagnose the problem, i've noticed that the 3rd/4th hop in traceroute always jumps from single digits for a ping time to 50-90ms but usually not go over 90ms.

I live in a condo, built in the 70s (wiring possibly an issue?) and judging from the 3rd or 4th hop jumping so much -- is it by chance that it's the router for my block that's jacking up my latency?

Sorry for the novel, tried to be specific and thorough as I can. I'm open to any and all suggestions/thoughts/feedbacks for either diagnosing the problem or a potential fix.... Cause like I said I'm not holding my breathe for the technician to come anytime soon.

Thanks for anyone who takes the time to hit me with some knowledge!

That problem hop could easily be many miles away from you, and there is nothing you can do to fix it anyway. You cannot tell the internet what path to use to get to the destination.

I suppose you could track down where that hop is and notify the company responsible, but that wouldn't guarantee that they would fix it -- it still works, it's just adding latency for whatever reason. Maybe they recently bought a new server or router and the new one isn't as good as the old one. Or it could simply be a different model that takes a bit longer to process stuff. We are talking about thousandths of a second here.

or it could be that the servers are beinmg downgraded. I have had a massive jump in my ping to MWO and I've tested it from 5 ISPs in three different countries(2 continents). This is how they roll... take cash F*** you customer.

Goose, you forgot one:

(or maybe it's built into TCP optimizer, I've never used it :P )

You are lucky, hitdetection is way better with higher ping, low ping players tell normally when european, russian and australian players complain. ;-)

Nope, it's not the servers. My normal ping is 28-40 ms (during peak times it jumps to 60-80 ms) and has been since I started playing MW:O the first week of August 2012.

Internet traffic would still be routed through the same series of routers at the Canadian end, even if you try connecting from different countries and continents. It is highly unlikely that your ping troubles are related to anything PGI is doing.

Isn't this the infamous TCP ACK fix?

Yes, but it's packaged in a neat little program which will make the required changes for you, so you don't need to go messing about with the registry.

Von Dach said:

Apply the SG TCP Optimizer
  • You should use optimal settings + TcpAckFrequency=1, TcpNoDelay=1
  • DO NOT activate LargeSystemCache, you may experience a severe, random decrease in performance and random burst of lag
  • ecncapability=disabled or you won't be able to log into EA Online

I guess so, and I should have put up this quote sooner.

And how does the tcp header helps the udp packets the game uses?

Different program, similar (though possibly more limited) results. Explanation on functionality in link.
