Same way as done damage, also absorbed damage should be rewarded.
Justification: most mechs can absorb huge amount of damage without dying if pilot is skilled enough. Rewarding this skill should be almost as valuable as doing damage 'cause every mech still alive is threat to enemy, by capping even without weapons.

Like a "zombie" achievement/reward for surviving in a critically damaged mech?

Do we really need to incentivise the playing of heavies and assaults?

Well, reward could be scaled by % of theoretical absolute maximum of mechtype, so tonnage wouldn't effect on amount of it?

personally I have seen a lot more "zombie" lights and mediums than any other weight class (usually fast enough to get away)

I could also see this incentivising friendly fire. I've seen plenty of drops where it ends with 3+ guys on the enemy cap with 1 enemy off hiding somewhere. 2-3 seconds before the match ends people start pinging each others arms and legs.
Part of the problem is that roles are not really defined by the mech chassis. I've seen brawler Atlases and LRM Atlases, Highlanders rigged as brawlers, LRM support, and snipers. If mech roles were defined by the chassis I'd say go with it. But the game just doesn't work that way. I'd be more willing to give lights a small bonus for enemy shots that come within 5 meters of them without hitting.
