All other weapons seem to have a nice appropriate hit effect.

The lasers just have cockpit light flicker.

I propose that lasers get a vibration effect to the mech being impacted.
Imagine that as a laser is drilling into that armor there is ALOT of material boiling and vaporizing off.

That is a source of alot of chassis vibration. After all these mechs aren't clamped down like in an industrial drilling press.

Undoubtedly that vibration would be felt thru the structure and by the pilot and could manifest in a slightly juddering hud/crosshairs/visuals out the cockpit window.

The effect would get the lasers something to put them more on parity with the missiles and ballistics and PPCs and would be unique.

As it is when you're getting hit by a laser, unless you have cockpit lighting or sound fully up, you'll barely even notice it. Its much easier to keep your cool under laser fire and direct your return fire than when you're getting hammered by other weapons.

Thoughts?

They are lasers. Focused beams of Light.

No Recoil or momentum to transfer to the mech.

If anything the only sounds or movement you should feel is the melting of armor and parts. SO really... no real hit recoil, unless they hit ammo.

Hell, I'd settle for reliable hit indication period.... Half the time hits to me do not show up on my HUD. One minute my arm is there, the next it's gone. No warning klaxon, no vibration, no red marker to tell me I'm getting hit from somewhere outside my FOV.....

How about the hud gets white noise static when hit by energy weapons. Could be nearly as distracting as being shaken, but with a "more believable ™" approach.

Large amouts of metal cooking off in an explosive fashion. If one missile hit can shake a 100-ton mech, this should as well.

What's really more annoying is the hit sound a laser makes.

Sounds like paper crumpling. Such an awful, annoying sound that makes me cringe every time I hear it.

not talking about an impact shake. more like a juddering vibration over the course of the beam duration as the armor and internals are flash evaporating.

I like white noise on the hud.

Missle and ballisitc shacking should be moved to heat visual penatlys.

I think this is a cool idea, just so long as they don't over-do it like with LRM shake.
