It was a Firestarter.
Lunatech and Shar Wolf got it definitely.
zudukai and Lightning were close. zudukai thought it was Catapult but he mentioned, that it could be very close to a Firestarter. And Lightning guessed both, depending on the direction (what is against the rules, I need one clear guess).

Then I asked a friend to help me out with the footprints. Here is the result.

Firestarter / Catapult


To be clear I turned the Catapult footprint 180 degrees.

Now it's clear that this is one case of a very close decision. It's just about the size of the footprint to distinguish the Firestarter footprint from the Catapult footprint. And in this game you cannot know about the real size in the photo.
So I decided to give away a point to anyone who guessed Catapult too.
zudukai, Lightning, PhoenixFire55, Bront, luxebo got a point too.

Special thanks to Koolaid for taking both footprints (Firestarter footprint in the sand too, thanks to trial mechs) and zudukai for feedback to this thread and his knowledge because he was the only one who guessed Firestarter because of its size. This is awesome! Congrats.

Like I said earlier, it definitely looks like some Mechs are using the same footprint textures, except maybe scaled differently...

Finally I found a NEW footprint. Watch the Dragon footprint, it's a bit similar but just a bit.

Yeah, I checked the game files, and only the footprints for the

Atlas, Awesome, Cataphract, Catapult, Centurion, Cicada, Commando, Dragon, Griffin, Highlander, Hunchback, Jenner, Locust, Raven, Spider, and Stalker

appear to be there. That's only 16 unique prints for 29 different Mechs...

The back end of the Catapult footprint is a bit wider - but that may have been an awkward step.

sorry, i seem to have been unclear, my first post mentions the firestarter, while my second reinforces my thoughts by saying it was too small for a catapult (as well as it being done already)

Yeah, I don't think it would be one but it does look like some of the Clan mech's footprints judging from the models and how they're laid out.

On another note: So far the Clan mechs appear to have similar footprints as well (or simply lack unique ones). Catapult and Timber Wolf have identical foot prints.
