I know that Lobbies and opponent selection are on a bit of back burner with DX11, UI 2.0, CW, Clans, etc. I understand and support those decisions - the core features come first, right?
However, there is a very involved community associated with Battletech and MWO, who would like nothing more than the ability to run leagues, tournaments, scrimages, etc. with their friends, corp. mates, Sibco, or whatever - while they wait for the features to roll out over the next months. The popularity of RHOD, MCW, ISW, Proxis, etc. even though it is usually a royal PITA to sync drop a 12-man, just highlights how passionate the community is.
So, throw us a bone. Give us a simple matchmaking tool while we wait for CW, lobbies and all that good stuff. If nothing else, please allow us to use a simple matchmaking code to organize matches in the mean time.
All you need to have a simple code check: If you type in a code (6 digit perhaps?), only match the team against other teams that have input the same code. If 2 teams want to "sync drop" they can ensure the other team is the only possible match. If the Comstar server wants to have some kind of "scramble" or "tournament," all the teams use the same code.
I suspect programming the matchmaker so that only matching codes play each other in the 12-man queue is significantly easier than programming lobbies in the short term. It would be a great gesture to your competitive community, something that will surely pay dividends when the next mech pack comes on sale.

I approve of this idea. Anything to make it easier to get drops played in many of the various community run leagues that are breathing life into MWO while we wait patiently for Community Warfare to begin to roll out.

I'd love to have this feature, but I can tell you what the dev response will be:

This is brilliantly simple. Text input box, bypass Matchmaker, look for other matches that input codes (and don't look at any normal matches for this kind of check to save resources), wait 1 minute, fail to find a match if the code doesn't show up.

First off: Bump, this is an interesting interim idea
Secondly: This would be easier, but still require some UI redesign (and would be lovely to be incorporated into UI 2.0) as you would need either a new button so as to have a box pop up and give a field to input the code or a new field in the standard UI to implement. So that would likely mean that it might get back burner-ed.
Still, a very neat idea.

Yeah, that's all probably true. And, you're right, it likely makes more sense to integrate this in the imminent UI 2.0. Nonetheless, I cannot imagine it would take that much effort to add a single button and field code into UI 2.0 at this point.

This would be great! As you said, a simple numeric code should be pretty easy to code and throw in.
...At least one would think...
Just make it available only in 12s, so it's not abused by 4s, and there should be no issue at all.

This seems like it would be simple to do... after all they did add the ready button... well then it got all messed up because people don't have patience...
REGARDLESS, it would be of significant benefit to all the groups that run leagues of any kind.

@ Scopes,
Yes. Surely it can't be a ton more difficult than the match countdown, and I am completely certain that if players had the choice between a countdown or match codes - they would pick match codes!

It has been mentioned in the past by PGI and this would bring a lot more interest while we wait for CW goodies.
