Yeah, but isn't it fun out pulse-lasering the Arctic Cheetos? I love all the new Clan light pilots feeling like they can hands down beat the pants off a Locust only to get their legs sawed off in a duel.
I don't try and one-vs-one Locusts in mine... but I'm one of the mad men in unskilled new mechs....

It was nice running out Assaults and Heavies for a bit too as those queues were low.

I've been playing locusts for quite some time now and have always liked them.

That being said, yesterday I bought myself a 3S after i fought one (2xLRM5, ML) earlier on that canyon map and that was one annoying bugger.

I took me 2 or 3 matches to deeply regret my purchase. I can't get it work. Not with 2x LRM5 plus ML and definitely not with 4x SRM2 plus ML (feels like a Mini-Huginn).

So heres's my question:
If i feed that pile of junk to my wolves (timber or dire - doesn't m

atter) will my other locusts (PB,3M,1E) still want to be friend with me?

Just a thought here, but 4 SRM2 and an ML is just a bit too much for this mech, in my experience. It benefits from going full-optimization (Huginn-style) and dropping the ML to go all SRM all the time (Huginn is most OP when dropping MGs for more SRM spammo). The free space means more ammo/engine/whatever.

It feels a little odd at first, but it's better by far in terms of performance, IMO. It's still risky as all get out, but knowing your shtick in a mech and embracing it completely makes a difference ;)

I have heard of people running 4 srm2 3s's before with no laser. I think Tarogato had a pretty funny story about being the last mech alive on his team with no ammo. I am tempted to run a tag/ssrm on it and just go full support ideally tagging without getting caught and using the ssrm whenever sombody gets too close. If only people on my teams used lrms ;)

yeah the 4srm2 was a popular early build for the 3S- kinda like a mini oxide. I never did it myself because I do want to have some sort o energy backup whenever possble even if it's just a SL. did go 3SRM2 and a ML though for a bit. still went through the ammo pretty quick (think I only had 2 tons or so).

as for the arctic cheetahs I think i'd rather face a quad gauss crab than one of those non damage registering monsters that make firestarters and pre hitbox fixed spiders seem like the broad side of an atlas in comparison when it comes to registering damage.

Alright! All Locusts mastered, once again! Premium time makes leveling so much faster, it's ridiculous. So, now I gotta get all muh Locstat ratios above 1. Here's what I've got to work with.

1E:
Games: 141
W/L: 1.15
K/D: 1.34
Damage/: 365

3M:
Games: 110
W/L: 1.24
K/D: 1.12
Damage/: 323

PB:
Games: 114
W/L: 1.27
K/D: 1.67
Damage/: 276

1V:
Games: 61
W/L: 1.35
K/D: 1.19
Damage/: 207

3V:
Games: 66
W/L: 1.03  (in the green by one win)
K/D: 1.58
Damage/: 204

3S
Games: 61
W/L: 1.31
K/D: 0.92
Damage/: 247

1M:
Games: 56
W/L: 0.83
K/D: 0.97
Damage/: 245

The good news is, the 3S and 1M don't have that many games! The bad news is, I kinda suck at SRM Locusts.

Looks like I'll be grabbing the 180 XL. Does anyone go even lower 170(?!) or is that just way too slow

I'm trying an LCT-1V with max armor and an ER Large Laser :) I have named it "Bug." Because it bugs larger 'mechs.

I find that I don't suck any worse with it than I do with the JM6-A I usually play. As a total noob with only about 26 drops, I usually manage one or two assists per match if I'm lucky and die fast and stupid anyway no matter what I'm in. It's interesting in the Locust, it's sort of like soldiering around with a laser rifle and hiding in things, then taking pot shots at the unwary. I live a little longer but I find that you're just as much of an attention magnet as you would be driving an Atlas. You can't phone it in driving a Locust, you have to have your head in the game.

The Locust is a different style of play. It is not for everyone. You have to be a special kind of crazy to consistently run one of these. So we, the Locust pilots, are a band of brothers like no other. I'm considering the IraqiWalker hit and run technique, dropping the ER laser and subbing in a medium laser and 4 MGs. But I'm not entirely sure of that. I like my annoying little stinger.

The 170 used to be kind of popular but I haven't seen anyone running it lately. The 180 seems to be the way everyone is going to squeeze out that extra half ton. If you use the 5/1/5 arm/head armor configuration that gives you 7.5 tons to work with. Also, I think the 170 leaves you with less slots available, so that is something to consider as well.

Ah I never thought about needing even more heat sinks.

Also, I never realized how crap i am at Conquest. Of course I shouldn't be surprised that I am slaw at a game mode I never play. I need dem rewards tho! At least dat premium time!

I just started getting back into conquest myself. I have found the payout isn't bad as far as bills and xp go, if you focus on capping and not so much fighting. I don't know how it affects match score though. I do know that I broke 30 on a round where all I had was a few assists and a little damage (sub 200) but we won by capping.

I helped.

LCT-1M

That said, you're better doing the same on this:
LCT-3S

As you get better missile cooldown + heat and range quirks too, bringing you out to 1150M on the LRMs.

I just played a match in a Locust: RIver CIty in LCT-3V (+), I still have to find a build I like for that variant, this time I'm running with 1 ERLL with max speed !!1080¡¡ meters basic range is pretty impressive but the fact that it is a single weapon and that the map doesn't really need such long ranges doesn't bode well. Possibly against my best judgement I decide not to try to snipe from long distances because I deem there is too much cover for enemies, so I simply stroll out in left flank trying to locate enemies for scouting purposes in the hopes it will help my team even if it doesn't help me so much, mind me this map is still new for me so I use a vector that does provide me with cover so I am not located but it does blind me too, so without even knowing how I suddenly stop and my seismic suddenly show several blips, I stop because I'm in the water without good cover to run away and more blips show until the minimap is a red stain so I decide to do the only thing I can think about: power down. Luck is on my side, I'm in the water and as I power down my mech kneels down slightly so I stay bellow water level very hard to spot and I do all I can do, hit team chat and say: "oh **** I'm powered down in the midst of them, full team g5" The rest of the story is me hearing lots of shooting, metal bending and screaming around me and finally powering up to find that my team had actually eliminated over half of the enemy team and rescued me from the enemy's clutches, thank you team mates you saved little Brizna from certain death. I tried to help as much as I could but with 1 ERLL and being shut down most of the match I couldn't even beat the 3 assists and 38 damage mark :( , 3V is not after all the all mighty 1E and not all bad matches in locust let you walk back home with your mech :D  :D

(+) Thanks Derek and all donors in that give away.

Just started my Locust collection today, got a 3M with an 180 XL engine, only problem is if I want four heat sinks I'm left with half a ton wasted and no slots to use, I instead had only three double heat sinks but an ams and a ton of ams ammo with leaves just .1 left. Also decided on 5 medium lasers instead of 5 small pulse, I tried by and the mediums just suit me better I think.

You want an xl 190, 5ml, & BAP. (I prefer spl but if you like ml that is your choice).

3M is decent, but put the 190XL with 5 medium lasers and max heat sinks on a 1E and you will notice a significant improvement. The life of the quirked...I actually hope they get rid of the quirks so that all Locusts will be more closely matched.
