First off I'd like to yes I didn't like the original UI but after time it grew on me just like this one will too. But as this is the first day the ui 2.0 came out this is my initial gripes with it rather I grow to over come these gripes time will see.
Here is an Overview of the gripes I do have. I'll go into further explanation afterwords.
- On home tab Statistics, and Redeem code feel useless. They both send you to the website.
- Home could display more relevant information
- Mechlab tab when selecting your mech half your mech is off screen
- Mechlab tab Lack of custom organization between your mechs. needs a 'favorites' subtab
- Mechlab lack of auto refill option on consumable modules
- Skills tab Doesn't display xp you have for mechs you don't own
- Skills tab no filter that only displays Mechs you do own
- Skills Tab pilot tree's needs more specific filters
- Store tab horribly organized
- Store tab When you select a mech in store there is zero information just a price..
- Store tab not even a way to view a 3d model of the mech in the store.
Those are the list of things just right now I have found, There is other problems like crashing when you swap between tabs. But that's not what i'm here to talk a bout.
Now to break down all my complaints and explain why I feel a bout these the that I do.
- On home tab Statistics, and Redeem code feel useless. They both send you to the website
Both of these are a in my opinion miss placed because they send you to the website. Redeem I would suggest moving down to where Purchase MC is. Statistics I feel needs to be either integrated into the client. I have other suggestions for it in a moment
- Home could display more relevant information
Home screen feels empty displaying only in the bottom lift your battlemech currently selected and your premium time. There is a huge empty space where it shows your mech which you can't even rotate to look over or do anything else specifically. Some information that would be nice to have on this screen would be maybe your profile, username, show some statistics, Maybe even have a list on the right side of different mechs like say a few favorite mechs for quickly dropping into matches. Even your c-bills and MC count would be nice to have on this screen. In the end I just feel like this tab has nothing going for it other then to see your mech centered on the screen. Maybe you could even put in some advertisements or patch notes, any kind of information that might be useful for a pilot.
- Mechlab tab when selecting your mech half your mech is off screen
This is just more of an Aesthetic gripe to me. Part of my OCD goes crazy seeing how it's slightly cut off on the side, zooming out just a bit would be real nice so you could see your entire mech to the right of the screen. Not much else to say a bout it other then don't have a fixed camera angle and try to change the zoom depending on the size of the mech so it's not half off the screen.
- Mechlab tab Lack of custom organization between your mechs. needs a 'favorites' subtab
I think I read somewhere this was going to be a thing soon or later. Though I am not for sure so I'll still say it now. There needs to be a way to have custom organized tab for your mechs the all tab is a jumbled mess when you have 30+ mechs. Another thing I'd like to add Trial mechs are a little obnoxious to be in all the tabs try to keep them in the Trial tab. Either fix the 'owned' filter or keep them out of all the other tabs.
- Mechlab lack of auto refill option on consumable modules
This I feel is just a necessity every match having to buy all new ones can get really annoying when you forget to grab another arti strike or UAV. Just make a toggle button of some sorts to auto refill that mechs consumable you had in the previous match a single check box next to the consumable module would fix all this.
- Skills tab Doesn't display xp you have for mechs you don't own
This I feel is very annoying, some people do like to grind the trial mechs exp so they can just buy the mech later get the masteries and be done with it. I haven't personally ever done this but I know others have. Maybe this is a bug but I feel like that information should be there.
- Skills tab no filter that only displays Mechs you do own
Sometimes you want to just filter out all the mechs you don't own. Since they just clutter your list having to shift through them all for the variants you do own. This also could apply to maybe already maxed out mechs you could filter out also. Just different filters in general would be nice.
- Skills Tab pilot tree's needs more specific filters
Shoving all the weapon modules in target tab clutters that tab up greatly, and as more and more and more weapon modules are added I feel like an expansion on these filters would be nice. right now feels disorganized when you click on that tab. Secondly filters for ones you already own would be nice also.
- Store tab horribly organized
You start out at home and I can see where your going with that displaying information which I think some of this info could be put on the home tab like the 'clan collection is here' promo. or watch the laters tutorials if you do not put other information on the home page. sales promo's makes sense and are alright to have like 50% off this and this color and mechs. Then we get to the battlemechs subtab... Filters... If you haven't guessed by now the theme of most my complaints is filters... Just add them all sorts all kinds. hero filters, champion filters, light medium heavy assault. Maybe put in some different views too like instead of having an image of them and buy under it you could put them in a drop down menu with all the variants of that chasis. filter out ones you own. or maybe you want to see the ones you own. this lack of organization I think would make a lot of new players be VERY overwhelmed and confused. Not to mention the lack of information displayed which i'm getting to next.
- Store tab When you select a mech in store there is zero information just a price..
When you click on a mech it doesn't do anything. It just highlights it. It doesn't display any information that would help you know what you are purchasing. It merely says Chasis name and it's variation. along with an ambiguous letter next to some of them [ H or C or nothing ] There should be a list of information to the side like when you hover over your mech in the mech lab that tells you every single detail of that mech. From min-max engine, it's hard points, all the other information you have already displayed. Other things that would be nice if displayed to help clarify when purchasing a hero mech is that it's paint pattern cannot be changed. other things like clarifying what is a Hero and Champion mech and what bonus's they grant also.
- Store tab not even a way to view a 3d model of the mech in the store.
This is a continuation upon my first complaint a bout the lack of information. With hero mechs having there custom aesthetics some people would like to inspect and yes this does happen people will buy based on how a mech looks. Being able to at least rotate the mech and inspect it while looking at it's stats will help a player make an informed purchase. What would be even better if we had a way to view the mech in an omnidirectional way. not just rotating it. Maybe could just add this too all things where you could rotate your mech Also zooming in and out would be nice also. [Wouldn't it be nice if all those artists could have there work fully appreciated and looked at from every angle.]
In conclusion, I see this update as you guys said it was. It was more of a stepping stone where you can add much more in the future. I hope these things I have concerns for now are in the works to being improved. The base model of this ui is great but there is much more that needs to be added to this skeleton before it's a fully functional UI. [If anything maybe the feb 4th hard cap on that release was too soon.] Thank you everyone at PGI for your hard work on bringing us new content and always taking your time to read constructive criticism.
