I've been apart of enough of matches were I have either seen or have been the "squirrel" to draw fire for an advance that works.

So the question is, may there be a data set that awards those interpid souls that draw fire for the good of the team?

Its a nice idea.. however how are program within the game be able to interpret a light/medium mech to draw fire? Its a awesome idea in theory but in practice is far difficoult

I wonder if it could be made similar to a Savior Kill? Somehow tied to where, if you are receiving damage by an enemy and that enemy mech is destroyed, and/or maybe is receiving damage in their back, you could get credit for drawing their attention.

The key is what the servers do keep track of during a match, and what can be coded.

I'd love to see a "damage taken" stat, and having some kind of xp award for it (c-bills don't seem right) would be thematically appropriate, with a bonus for not dying (suggesting you spread your damage taken very effectively).

Well, one thing you could track is how much partial hits you take from lasers. If you have lots of one/two tick damages from lasers it either implies a poor shot or a good driver. Either way, you've been soaking damage, perhaps might apply to lrm/srm partial hits (not taking ams into account.. maybe)

I'd love more stats to be available

I like the idea, but there are a ton of technical hurdles, not the least of which is figuring out when you drew fire and the other guy was just a terrible shot.

So maybe something like:

Distraction
Enemy is killed from behind by a teammate within 10 seconds of damaging the player

And 3 or so of those would get you a Squirrel! bonus. I'd say a low amount of rewards for Distractions with a hefty bonus for Squirrel!, one or two distractions could be luck, but sticking with it would require putting yourself in the line of fire, and should be rewarded appropriately for the risk.

Yes, I can already see issues with my suggestion. It's just a quick idea.

It's rather complex to code if you want it to be remotely accurate, but not all that hard to do. The biggest potential problem is resource cost, both in development and in implementation. Such a system could easily end up doubling the resource cost of a match and could take an average programmer weeks to build, and it will likely take months to balance it properly. A master programmer ( say on the level of John Carmack ) could probably do it a lot more efficiently but I don't think PGI has anyone like that.
Simple implementations like the ones mentioned here will not be enough to accurately gauge the tactical advantage a team gets when someone plays squirrel, and we've got enough unbalanced rewards as it is. That being said, I like the idea but if it's not done properly it will confuse people more than it rewards them.

I like the idea. But I do not see how it would work. Would love to see it though. Have been the squirrel more than once and that is a serious contribution to teamwork when all goes well and the rest of the team pushes.

It would be nice to have, but this idea is definitely low priority.

Along these same lines, I'd like to see a little xp bonus for 'First to Fight' where it's the first person to do damage to the opposing team from both sides.

how about a bonus for being targeted and/or hit by the most enemies, and survive?

most damage fired at while locked/damage taken/ is a significant stat. As is more scoring & pay for actually handling objectives.
