The name of this thread is: Every mech can be good in the right situation. Tell me: WHEN IS AN OST MECH GOOD EVER!!??
Ostscouts are the least offensive thing on the field- heck, there's ones built with NO GUNS. It's basically a slightly heavier, more durable Spider...until 3064-65 and the -9's, which drip with electronic warfare gear and actually pack modest amounts of laser firepower to boot.
The other Ost-series designs?
The Ostsol and Ostroc are mostly wrapped around energy weapons, which in MWO would make them the groundbound cousins to the Quickdraw. On the other hand, all the guns are in the torso which can make it tough to crack in MWO terms, since the arms are basically shields.
The 65-ton Ostwar is a missile boater with a few energy hardpoints for backup firepower, with an LRM in the torso and SRMs in each arm. Likely similar to a non-jumping Catapult-C4 in MWO translation, but wider fields of fire with it's arms only missing hand actuators. It was the ancestor to the other Ost-series designs, but gets a modern reboot during the Jihad era that isn't too shabby.

Prior to the SRM fix, that was indeed the case- you were mostly limited to effective Streak boating and not much firepower otherwise. Obviously, that has changed.

Nothing wrong with Ostmanns. Personally, I'd like to see the Ostwar.
