As has been mentioned many times in the past, the competitive player base would love to have some sort of lobby system for finding league matches and what not. Until PGI is able to come up with that sort of functionality we do have a little known site that can accomodate this aspect of the game.

Mechwarrior Online Lobby

This site was created back in 2012 by Tenbatsu, it simulates the environment found on the MSN Gaming Zone back in MW's 3&4. It had gone dormant do to lack of use by players but is now being actively supported again due to the announcement of private matches.

You DO NOT need to use your MWO login information for this site as it is not linked to the game in anyway shape or form (although we do have interest in working with PGI for this functionality in the future.)

Go ahead, make an account check and check it out. We don't have many users ATM because we are just starting to get the word out about it again, but the more people who check it out the more people who can add to the community.

Thanks again everyone!

Just so you're aware, when registering I tried to use my name "Ghost Badger."

The system told me "The username can only contain letters, numbers, and underscores.

I then tried to use "Ghost_Badger" and was informed that "The alias can only contain letters, numbers, spaces, and hyphens."

That's confusing, and annoying.

-----------

That said, bump for this. For teams wanting to run 'any size with friends' it looks like it could be a viable way of finding private matches...ya know...since PGI isn't doing jack to assist in setting up those private matches with all the cool options.

That's some nostalgia. I've created an account and I can see this taking off when private lobbies are implemented if enough people know about it. Currently most players interested in competitive play organize on the sites/forums for different leagues and on TS, but I can see this being useful for bring people together.

Ghost Badger, the bug you were experiencing has been fixed. Let me know if anyone else is having problems, I will see what I can do to get them addressed.

One of the cool things about the old ladder leagues was the ability to advertise for a 6v6 and then play it and report it right then and there. A lobby of some sort is required for this functionality. Also it was just fun to be able to just interact with the community.

Sites like these will be very useful if we can get a unified API like bryan was talking about at the launch event. Would help enormously with match listing and things like that.

^^ This. Even just an XML string of the match results that could be pasted into 3rd party league results form would be a huge help. If PGI, even without any real effort, helped just at little on this sort of thing, they could learn sooo much. Like 'smurfy' take a good idea/s from the community and improve on it.

So, i just registered and i find this project interesting.

It s a shame that in this game, after 2 years of loyalty, i still have to rely to the wonderful creativity and passion of third parties - read Smurfy and you guys - to have a working Mechlab and a sort of rudimentary lobby system.

With that said, i applaude your effort and i have a question:
- when i create a room, then i see a botton "Launch" . What is supposed to happen when you click that, considering it cannot interact with MWO directly ??

Thank you.

All that button does right now is show a game is "in progress." We hope in the future to be able to perhaps have some other functionality, but currently it is basically just to show that the players in that room are currently playing a game.

Good idea, lets hope PGI lets us use MWO with this. Trying to get a clan meet so together so I can see how many of our clan will join.

On another note tho as our members have pointed out on our forum, How are you going to get PGI willing to let us use our client in this lobby with all restrictions removed, IE drop with any size group, for one they will be losing money because we are not dropping using their servers using Prem Time, unless all bonuses are not in effect when winning or losing which would just make this lobby a sort of basic clan training ground with our own lobby system, I hope that someone is not thinking of using a second program that forces the MWO client to open in this lobby as this will open infringement rights for PGI to shut it down. We feel that more info is needed for this to give more insight if MWO can be used.

You will still have to be in the game and create a private match. What we envision the site being used for is people being able to quickly find other players to drop into games with.

Props to you for putting this together. One thing I noticed, there are no Blackjacks in the Preferred Chassis drop down in the Profile.

That is because no one should have that mech as a preferred chasis....

Suggestion: Make the MechLab link open Smurfy in a new tab/window.

I am curious to see hopw long took you to build ... its very simple and useful ... how long could it really take for PGI to do this in comparison?

And yet still awesomely funny, as the registration server is essentially using your 2 "invalid but valid after all" names to play tennis with your mind
