My reccomendations are Ember, Oxide, and X-5 could play like a light.

The Death's Knell is bascially inferior to the X-5 in every way so don't bother and from what I hear the new Raven is actually pretty bad in hardpoint terms.

However the Deaths Knell is serious fun. This bad boy does 171 kph with speed tweak and packs a good armament of 4 x medium lasers.

...

Deaths Knell is one of my favourite mechs...

Came here to say this.

from my point of view:
(lots of info)

I'm going to use some of that for my "Which mech you should buy" topic if you don't mind .
By the way, that topic is supposed to become the tradehub for this question that appears almost every day, so feel free to discuss future purchases there ;)

And dies to a 4xML+2xSSRM2 Jenner or 6xML [any 35t light] in seconds. I did not say it could not be fun. But it is not very strong.

I absolutely LOVE the Ember. The biggest problems it has are the abysmal pitch for the torso weapons, and how much fun it is to chew up components. The bad pitch means that you can't get too close to an enemy or you lose the ability to aim your machine guns at either their side torso or legs (depending on how tall they are). The problem with it being too much fun is that you'll end up over-pursuing (I do, at least). You'll look up over your fresh kill and realize you've just ran into the middle of the enemy team. If you have the self-control to not chase injured heavies too far, you'll have a blast.

The Oxide doesn't give me that problem. Just load it up with streaks and start the hit-and-run madness. You lose maneuverability from not having jump jets, but if you know the maps, you can find the trails up and down the hills to make up for it. It's a ton of fun to find an enemy that's engaged, lock on while running towards them (from behind, of course), fire the streaks at about 150 m, and take off running at an angle (still behind them). If you can distract them for just a second, your bigger buddies can often get the upper hand. They won't tell you, but they love that crap.

can't speak for the Ember, but I can tell you that I completely agree with this statement about the oxide! You can just MELT light mechs with this Hero, and as a pilot who mainly drives Heavy/Assault chassis, its like a therapy session to drive it and scatter lights like a Fox in the hen house. :-)

They also said they had irrefutable proof that the Griffin would be DOA and the Wolverine would be the only competitor that the Shawk had.

I love my Oxide, but it is hard to be patient with it. You just want to run and run. But if you hug an Atlas, you can do crazy damage because nobody pays attention to you. This is definitely not a "scout" mech though. The minute you run off by yourself and the other team sees that big "O" in your designation, lights come from every direction to hunt you down. Happened to me the other day on the Straits. Went to cap Theta real fast and soon as I got there I had 3 Locusts and a couple Spiders on me with ECM. I made it about 300m before I fell face down in the water.

Good for chasing off lights, but if you are outnumbered you are dead. I use it almost exclusively like a destroyer escort. I stay by the big guys and harass and rack up 500+ damage every time.

Do you want to farm damage and C-Bills but suck at killing anything? Get the Oxide. Do you want to kill everything and be the bane of bigger mechs while still making tons of C-Bills? Get the Ember.

Do you like getting legged? Get the Huginn. Do you like going fast and overheating? Get the Death's Knell.
