Maybe I don't want you to know I'm being sarcastic. Maybe I want to see just how much they can screw this game up by listening to people complaining all the time about weapons being OP.
"Well this weapon counters my load-out so its OP.... I want that load-out nerfed PGI!"

Oh. That might explain several things...
You've actually been pretty good at keeping your intentions disguised this whole time, I'll give you that.

Meh, I've been pretty irritated since they nerfed AC/5s to the point its impossible to peg those annoying poptarts with their super fast PPCs. Its like comparing a sloth to a rabbit now making it virtually impossible to smack the ******** back. Non-poptarting mehs are getting boned cause of this crap. Heck can;t even supress them with AC/2s now cause they aren't a threat and have shorter range and lets not get into those pesky dual gauss Jagers that I used to force over the cliffs in Alpine peaks because I plinked the crap out of their cockpit glass.

Because it concentrates damage more, gives you more upfront damage, and now has slightly better range. (even cut in half - the AC2 would still have slightly higher heat) The AC2 simply isn't viable for poptarts or hill-humpers either.
By that logic - absolutely no one should be using the PPC instead of the ERLL. The ERLL is more heat efficient, more damage efficient (higher damage to tonnage ratio), longer ranged, and has no min range.
Yet - for some reason - the PPC is the more popular of the two. Go figure.
Damage amount actually has less to do with it than you give credit for.
Other Ballistics need to change to 2x range, then the AC/2 has use again.
BTW, PPC compared to ERLL does not work here. Both ACs mentioned do damage the same way, all to one location. PPC does, ERLL does not. You would need something like a lower damage PPC to compare to the Standard and ER PPCs. We don't have it. Your comparison is incorrect.

If all ACs had the same RoF - then all but the AC20 would suddenly suck. A lot.
The heat of any weapon itself is never an issue. It's the heat to damage ratio.(as described by Shlkt - though I tend to figure it out the other way around - with low numbers being superior)
Who mentioned AC/10 & 20? It is only AC/2 to AC/5. Second time you brought other weapons into the discussion when they are not relevant to it.
Heat issues with the AC/2 has always been in the game even before the recent nerf. I mentioned contacting PGI about it, they stated why they would not change it. Even before the AC/2 & 5 nerfs, I felt the AC/2 did too much heat but PGI refused to consider changing it.
The issue is the AC/2 got its range decreased and now people are trying to find a way to make it useful. Just lower range on all ACs to 2x.

PPCs/Gauss/LRMs king of battlefield.
Depends.
Gauss is not easy to use, even though double/triple Gauss is deadly, even single is rarely seen.
LRMs, just had them tweaked. Besides, certain ACs would outrange LRMs or close to it and are still aimable.
PPC, well that has been a whole issue unto itself and I have seen several people posting ideas on changing it.
I will thank you for being part of inspiration for this topic.

The AC2 has always been woeful in terms of overall performance.
I would even sooner use an LBX10 in most cases than a pair of AC2s.
They've always been far far too hot for the mediocre performance, and AC2 mechs have always been very easy to deal with.
I never understood how an AC2 can rack up so much heat so fast for relatively low damage, by it's Lonesome where 2 or more AC5s can fire continuously and never worry about heat. And the only thing I can come up with to explain it is..... Because PGI
