Hey wanderer, I don't think you should take the "faction" part of it so seriously. The top players are actually competitive players who are more aligned with their teams rather than their faction. As you saw, Eglar has no faction allegiance. HoL, which I think includes several of the #1 players and which will probably win the official tourney, is not a real unit. The guys who play Liao and who I've spoken to on TS have all been real BT fans. These are the guys I'd rather be playing with in all honesty.
I'd rather play with them as well. It just paints a dire picture for later. Capellan players have to be better than other ones,
because there are fewer of them. This time, not only were they not, there were no individual standouts. We had players that improved. We had none that improved enough to excel. I have no problems with having nobody as good as Eglar. I have every worry about nobody being able to keep up with any faction. Our best was barely better than the #5 on most factions. We were last in every sense of the word. Last is the most dangerous place to be in PvP.
If nothing else, just think about community warfare coming along and suddenly, you pay through the nose compared to everyone else- because you're the obvious punching bag and your planets will belong to every faction within attacking distance except your own. Dead last in a PvP game means you cease to exist because the easiest prey is the prey everyone eats. And that's not fun. And when not fun occurs, shortly thereafter there are no more Capellans that actually care.
Get better. Show the flag. Every game. Or the **** that will come down on your heads for having that Liao sword next to your names will be like being the kid stuffed in the lockers in high school times a few dozen orders of magnitude, as it happened before. The last time it happened, it took getting the Kuritans in on a dirty sneaky code-bending orgy of Davion butt-kicking beyond the rules of the game to get some peace and respect.
I am far, far too old to be pulling that off twice. Get in on tournaments. Get good on tournaments. Get someone else at the bottom of enough charts and stop looking like a free lunch, because right now, that's what we got. We need proud, flag-waving-up-yours-I'm-Liao-and-I-owned-you players that can back up their trash talk and leave people wanting to know more. And no, trash talk isn't enough without results. That just means that if you talk first and fail second, all you will be in their eyes is talk. Trash them first, trash talk them second.
This should be the average newbie after seeing a Capellan at the top of the charts. If there are no Capellans at the top of the charts in your games in some form, even if you lose 0-12, then you need to feel bad about it until you regularly are outdamaging, or outkilling, or outlasting the rest of the non-Capellans on your team. Or all of them at once.
And then make people look at your numbers next tournament and give them something to talk about. You don't have to be the top, but you
cannot be last.
