I know that most Atlas pilots do not use a 300 engine in them. The extra speed and torso turning ability of a bigger engine goes a long way towards making up for the already slow moving Atlas' nature. I myself don't bother putting anything less than a 350 in it, and it's been a long time since I have plodded along in a 300. I'm pretty confident I am not alone in this.
Since the Daishi is going to be hampered by such a slow engine, it would behoove us to stick 300s in our Atlas mechs now to get acclimated. I'm sure that the Daishi will have superior torso and arm movement stats to the Atlas, but no amount of stat tweaking will make up for the super slow speed. It is going to be an easy target for the Arty and Airstrike rain of thunder that its opponents will unleash upon it; not to mention being the lastest with the mostest to the battle. Better bring your raincoats.
As we all know, speed is life in MWO, so if you plan on piloting a Daishi, I would suggest getting used to driving a slow Atlas now to blunt the pain and shock of the Daishi later. PGI needs to give a warning to future Daishi pilots: Be prepared to be shocked-but not in a good way.
Since the Uller and Puma are also going to be unusually slow, we should also practice using slow lights as well. I know that our slow IS mechs can't pack as much firepower or be as durable, but we should get used to piloting them now nonetheless.
