So in the Perfect Screenshot thread, someone said it was too bad we couldn't get access to some special camera. They referred to something that I later tracked down to be from here.

It appears to be a more refined version of the spectator camera found during PGI's Launch Party tournaments. Very smooth, great for cinematics. After watching the recent Freelancer ship commercial from Star Citizen, it got me thinking... "How cool it would be if mechs had commercials too."

Then I really got to thinking: There are plenty of youtubers who make videos, but our methods are severely limited. We can't deliver truly cinematic experiences. But if in private matches we could get access to a camera like this, we could.

No, this is not a hack.
[Edit: Snip on details that are irrelevant to the post.]

With this kind of camera inside the private matches as an option, we could film and make parodies, recruitment vids, etc. Like the many Team Fortress 2 parodies and skits, it'd be free advertisement for the game, expanding interest in it and thus increasing the player base.

With access to that camera, any aspiring film director/maker could potentially make works like this one.

...Honestly so long as it remains to private matches, I see absolutely no reason not to bring it to us.

Please PGI?

I second this, it would make possible a whole Hrothgar-load of user-created content! :D
Or perhaps an Overlord-load of content?
Either way it'd be neat to see. :P

Indeed. Here's a simple example use.

Producing basic and advanced gameplay tutorials with the ability to switch to important perspectives that otherwise cannot be achieved, required for demonstrating the topics.

I'm all for this.

Then the major Houses/Clans can collaborate to show CW victories/defeats in a cinematic style!

there should be a possibility to add somethign like 1-4 spectators havign a free cam view.

This way some people may be able to make some great movies, and this is always a great and free source of advertising for the game.
It would also allow people to make own Tournaments and Events.

And if PGI would implement a gift mechanic into their Shop the playerbase could even make Tournaments with prices and PGI ould also make some more money by this.

Yeah, but yours is for players that died and want to spectate. Mine's just for private matches, as a toggle option at the launch menu most likely, for filming.

Oh and bumping topic.

I don't know why PGI doesn't do this. Its basically saying we'll pay you to do free marketing for your game.

Essentially yeah.

Right now several of us are working on a Solaris Arena with some set rules and we'll have a couple of camera mechs. I'm hoping that it (and the obvious use of private matches to film) would give them more reason to do this.

Also thanks for the thread bump!

Doing it just for videos would be great, but once they've done it they're half way to a Commander mode. Why stop?

Issue becomes making enemy mechs invisible to it unless seen by others. But that would've given the command console something valuable to do.
