however the command console just looks like a huge waste of 3t: +5% bonus for a couple minor things doesn't seem like an advantage for the huge cost (i could be wrong, would have to try it myself to see), and the bonus target info gather can be acquired with a 1.5t beagle active probe.
but what might make the command console totally worth getting is if it automatically targeted every enemy mech any of your teammates have targeted plus all enemy mechs in view of your own mech - and this extra targeting would be only seen by a mech who has a command console installed
right now when you target an enemy mech it puts a red bracketed square around it, and after a few seconds of calculation the target info box appears on the top right of the screen. but YOU need to manually target the enemy to get any info on that enemy mech, and of course you can only target 1 enemy mech at a time
with the command console though, every single enemy mech in view of either yourself or targeted by a teammate will have a purple bracketed square, and target info gathering starts it's calculations as soon as any enemy mech gets targeted by you or a friendly. so if you and your team together see 6 enemy mechs, YOU will see them all with a purple bracketed square on all of them, and you can hover your targeting recticle over each purple bracket and the target info box will pop up instantly on the top right of the screen showing the status of the enemy mech you put the recticle on, and as soon as you remove the recticle from over the purple bracket the target info disappears.
this will let you scan all the targets on the battlefield fast and maybe make it easier to pick out priority targets or the most damaged target so you can make better decisions on who to shoot at.
also if i have a command console and i turn around a corner and run into 4 enemy mechs right in front of me, all 4 enemy mechs are automatically targeted with a purple bracketed square so my entire team can see all 4 instantly - if you didn't have a command console you could only manually target 1 of the 4 enemy mechs and your team wouldn't know there was 4 enemy mechs there
of course even if you have a command console you still would want to lock on manually to a specific target to give it a red bracketed square so the target info on the top right of the screen only shows the mech you'r interested in and not keep switching around while you'r in a tight brawl
now with LRMs and SSRMs this would allow you to lock on and fire to any purple bracketed square targeted enemy mech which might let you fire less than a second sooner than manually targeting, but if you don't manually target the mech you locked on to to make it a red bracketed square and another purple bracketed square appears near or on the purple bracketed square you are shooting at there is a very good chance you will start targeting back and forth between both mechs and lose your lock on the mech you wanted to shoot and you end up wasting the shot. also if you fire LRMs at a purple bracketed square you have to be much more precise keeping your recticle in the center of the square since if the recticle moves off even for a fraction of a second you would immediately lose lock and have to re-lock
i think for the 3t cost (which is a lot) getting a much better picture of the battlefield might be worth it, and the command console would be a great tool for actually commanding a battlefield - yay!
also purple is just the first colour that popped out of my head - green would be good or better, but i'd rather my whole HUD be "F-16 HUD green" than the current hard to see yellow
