Hey everyone. My merc corp is hosting a tournament with the top prizes including any clan mech and any hero mech. Needless to say I'd love to win this so I need some opinions/ideas.

The challenge is to use an Innersphere mech in its stock configuration (minus any Upgrades:DHS, etc).

What is the best 1:1 dueling IS mech in its stock config? Opinions GO!

My thoughts were Atlas, Shadow Hawk, Cataphract, Jagermech.

I had great success with stock phracts, ballistic heavy in particular due to low heat

If it's truly stock, the AWS-8Q does very well on Stock Mech Mondays. Jager's thin stock armor tends to hurt it.

ON1-VA is pretty savage with the fix on srms, but both sides pack ammo and side torsos on orions are notorious for going pop.

8Qs were devastating in the stock tournaments I ran for the Strykers, but those were team battles. One on one They're probably still pretty rough. The AC/20 Hunchback tends to do pretty well too.

The K2 with it's high mounted PPCs and decent backup weapons is pretty good on paper, maybe the center torso armor could use some tweaking since the CT on the Cats are huge, but otherwise it's solid. Meanwhile, C1 is okay, C4 isn't that great, and the A1 isn't worth bothering with, at least on paper.

I just grinded one C4 and one K2 last week stock and i was doing pretty good. in my K2 in caustic where we lost when it was me left versus a cent and another heavy i decided to upgrade to double heatsink. I did all my last IS mech stock lately because i sold them back after. I decided to keep the K2 after the upgrade though.

btw i hated the C4. like the Jester and K2 though.

Thanks for all the feedback. And yes we're talking fully stock. Of course, trial mechs are allowed so that changes things. I get the feeling most people will be using those.

all of the hunchbacks, the 4g and 4sp in particular are quite capable right out of the box. likewise the Centurion 9D and Pretty much all the Cataphracts. The catapult K2 and C4 do reasonably well but are strictly specialist builds and not really suited for dueling. Awesomes in general are scary good in the open but weak up close.

As for that last comment...

The current crop of trial mechs has no place in a stock match. what the [insert expletive] are you thinking?

Yes, because those are "stock" with "DHS" and "Ferro Fibrous" and "XL Engines". :)

Stock Mech Mondays

The forum has a list of all the good stock variants.

Locust 3a/m
Commando B
Spider V !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes it is good
Jenner F
Firestarter K
Raven 3l (the only stock ECM)

Cents
Hunchback G H
55 ton mediums have limited ammo but are faster
Cicadas are good but light on armor

Dragon 1N
Catapult 2K
Phract 2x/4x
Orion VA

Awesome 8Q 3ppc and heatsinks to make it work
Victors
Battlemaster 1D
Stalkers (watch the heat)
Highlandet 733/733p
Atlas K/RS

From: http://mechforceclas...est-stock-mechs

The main thing with stock: HEAT(your play WILL slow down). Second main thing: few mechs come with full armor, many come with barely any at all!
Third main thing: Ammo will run out fast-make it count.

Stalker 4N, for being completely useless otherwise, has a pretty good stock configuration, both for duelling as well as open combat. It trades one LRM for more heat sinks and has the best stock heat efficiency among the non-hero T1 Stalkers.

I don't think trials count as stock, as they are literal upgrades of normal variants.

Yeah if a stock tourny is being done that allows the trial mechs they are derping right from the get go, as all of the trial mechs use builds based off popular setups for the cbill versions.
