This post should help new players get more mileage out of the Trial Champion Mechs:

Trial Mechs are mechs in MWO that anyone can play without purchasing for in game currency. This is important because new players don't have a lot of C-bills (in game currency) to throw around buying new mechs. Before you purchase a mech, if it has a Champion version, you should test pilot it as a Trial Mech first. If you buy a mech in-game and don't like it, you can not get all your money back.
Good: Pilot a fully upgraded mech without spending any money.
Bad: You can not change what weapons and equipment the mech carries.

Currently, all Trial Mechs are Champion Mechs. Champion mechs are upgraded versions of the standard models available. They have the same hard points, appearance and if you spend enough C-bills can perform identitically to the Champion version. The only benefit to purchasing a Champion over a standard model is the Experience bonus.

Not all Champion Mechs are available as Trial Mechs, it changes regularly, so your favorite may not be around a month from now.

* If you play alone, you will probably die alone. Even experienced players can be easy prey without teamates nearby.

Good, this should help new players identify what style they prefer once they've tried these mechs.

That's a nice categorization, and very to-the-point which is great as an introductory list as opposed to an in-depth analysis.

Great post... But i'd also like to point out, Champions are also great mechs to spend a little MC on as well. Some have some incredible XL Engines, that on sale you can get them for basically 5-8 bucks.. well worth your money spent if you are the kinda person that does not mind paying for a few things,, after all, the only way they will keep running is if people buy some stuff so this is a great way to spend that MC!
