The tags are not working the way they should, so I'll just plunge ahead.

We have Champion 'Mechs, which to my understanding are the stock versions of the Inner Sphere 'Mechs in the game, and may become available for Clan use, also. They should be called Stock, not Champion.

Next, we have Hero 'Mechs, which are, for the most part, 'Mechs identified in lore, such as the Yen-Lo-Wang, but which are so proliferated through the community that there is nothing unique about them, except they were purchased solely for MC, and they grant a 30% C-Bill bonus in-game.

However, there is no means for allowing players in the game to have the name's of their 'Mechs become recognized, eventually, as Player Hero 'Mechs, or PH 'Mechs, or even just Player Heroes. So, here's the idea I came up with...

1) Driving Stock - If you pilot a Stock 'Mech, never changing it from it's purchase configuration, whether you purchased with MC or C-Bills you can, over time, build up a reputation with that 'Mech. I'm not sure if it would just be the number of hours or days played in drops, or if it would be a certain minimum number of kills, or kills over deaths in that machine, or whatever; but, once you have whatever number that is, you get to something of a Level 1 recognition with that 'Mech, where you would be known to other MechWarrior's, perhaps a special tag in the Ready Screen you've earned, and perhaps to the fictional residents of that planet. The Level 1 reputation would only provide these small things, but as you continue to drive that 'Mech for hours, days, kills, kills over deaths, or whatever metric is used, you reach another level of recognition, and another, and another, through say five levels of recognition. Perhaps at level 2 residents and MechWarrior's find out who you are a short while after you drop into a system, and you gain maybe a little bit of extra cash, easier repairs, etc. Level 3 you have recognition throughout the county you're in, more money, perhaps some manner of boost in performance for your 'Mech, etc. Level 4 throughout the Successor State you reside in, more money, more toys, perhaps cheaper toys, for your 'Mech, maybe even something special for your unit. Level 5, rumors of your existence and your PH 'Mech throughout the Inner Sphere, perhaps even among Clan circles, and all the other toys.

2) Driving Your Configuration - If you pilot a 'Mech you purchased, configured to your liking, and then have left untouched, you can do the same thing, though with perhaps a longer lead time for each level, more experience required, more kills, more kills over deaths, etc., and perhaps by as much again as 50% over what is required for Driving Stock, above. However, the levels and the benefits would be the same or, even, perhaps a bit more.

You want Inner Sphere renowned units in the game, since we can't own canon units, like the Kell Hounds or Wolf's Dragoons, but more like BWC or AU -tee-hee-, you get a bunch of these MechWarrior's together in that unit, and the legend begins to form.

Just something to think about.

The normal mechs we buy are "stock" mechs. The Champion mechs are player-designed mechs AFAIK.
Hero mechs are mechs owned by those with wealth and influence to get a mech customized.

If we were going by lore we should all be piloting mechs pretty much as bought, but with full customization we're all piloting "hero" mechs.

Champion mechs are not stock

Champion mechs are based off of popular player designs

Yeah when is a hero not a hero?

When they're the norm.
