How come MWO maps don't convey the same sense of scale and make the mechs look properly massive as this set of pictures of mechs dropped into the Crysis map? If this guy could pull it off why can't PGI? Would anyone else like to see maps with more detailed and lush environments with realistic weather effects?

Scale is pretty off in MWO, somehow they didnt get it right. Also theres no infantry so you never have this low POV which would emphasize how big the mechs are (Titanfall does this really well).

Regarding the level of detail just check how many FPS you get on average in a match in this game, how much the terrible HUD eats (press right ctrl-F11 with counter on) and realise that its not going to happen.

Because they don't have Crytek's content, just their engine, and they don't have the resources to make the game look that good.

MWLL could do it because they weren't making money off of it, just a mod. PGI can't do that without paying a lot more money.

So, they can't make content of this quality because they are legitimate?

Because PGI screwed up the scale on the mechs in the first place

Because Infantry to take the Rescores Platform and work the Turrets are not playable to the Players. So you don't get to run around with a Blazer Laser Rifle and do 0.032 damage to a Mech as your trying to Get the Green Button to start the Pumps to fill the Boxes the Mechs have to carry back to the Drop Zone so you can Refuel the Dropship.

It's something that always bothers me, the scale just never seems right, even when you look at the tiny little blue cars and compare them to buildings and roads, it just doesn't scale well.

The new map has a much better "feel" and look when it comes to scale

Yeah I've heard some good things about it.

Sidestafe nails down the map situation with MWO.

If every map had the same feel as mech factory I think you'd see fewer complaints (well except for the lack of maps overall)

Well they are obviously still doing alot of work on the game so who knows what happens in the long run. To have tanks and mechs running around they need to build the maps specifically for that. This new map is the most in depth so far so they are making them better and better as they go it looks like.

Without any doubt they will make a pass on the older maps to some time.

Awsome pics by the way.

Because people would quickly get tired of fighting on mountain bike trails with 100m max visibility

I think they'd just find something else.

there's always going to be that 10% that complains regardless but the mech factory map is the best one yet in my opinion, with the exception of being too small

Yep. Minimum effort required to turn a profit rather than even attempting to actually turn MWO into a great game.

Map scale is a DIFFERENT conversation than model scaling.

A medium the size of a heavy..... hmmmm... if the classes were scaled better, then the maps would be only a secondary concern.

This.

MWO maps are confined arenas. MWO should be renamed to Solaris: Online. Even the new map, while better, is still quite small and confined within a single area type. Compare that to MW4 or MWLL maps. Those are open, less dependent on tiny details and rocks that nobody looks at. They also have a proper view distance that isn't ridiculous.

If maps weren't so small, ACTUAL TACTICS could be employed by teams, more directions a battle could take and a variety of maps developed much more quickly.
