In light of the divided community, I have a three tiered proposal to deal with the ECM/LRM equation.

Proposal:
Tier 1
ECM no longer blocks Line of Sight targeting. (It, instead, blocks target information transfer. As in, You can target it if you can see it, but you cannot share data with your team.)

LRMs can no longer fire indirectly unless the the target is being painted by TAG, or Narc'd, or under a UAV. (Equipment spotter required)

ECM Disables Narc. (as it is now)
ECM mechs are not effected by BAP. (no sensor range increase effect, or Lock time decrease)
Artemis has no effect on ECM covered mechs.
ECM protects against UAVs.

Tier 2:
ECM slows down targeting, and also locking to 50%, in Line of Sight. (For all in bubble)
LRMs gain 350m/s speed and a lower arc when fired LoS.

Tier 3:
Counters to ECM are restricted to ECCM.

--------------------------
Things that would remain the same:
ECM: Disruption of radar/electronics within 180m.
LRM: Indirect fire Angle would remain high.

What do you think? Tier 1? Tier 1 and 2? All of them? Just tier 2?

Are you saying ECM mechs could not be equipped with BAP (to any effect), or that BAP would not help target mechs with disruptive ECM? How does it work now?

BAP increases your sensor range by 25% and decreases lock time by 33%.

When it comes to a mech under ECM, this effect would not be.

Thanks.

I don't know how it works now, but I'd let BAP keep its sensor range increase even vs. ECM so it isn't as hard/strong a counter itself to ECM, while letting ECM block the lock time bonus so BAP isn't too strong a counter to ECM.

The only thing I would change in Tier 1 would be that ECM would no longer block UAVs. 1) UAVs would be considered as having LoS on the enemies that they see. 2) The UAV is more than 180 m above the battlefield, and would be outside of the ECM bubble. [Think about the angles of a triangle. Thanks Trigonometry.] 3) Because the data-link from the UAV to its owning team would fall outside the area of the ECM bubble, the only way to keep the owning team from receiving said data-link would be for the ECM mech to move and cover as many enemy mechs inside their bubble as possible.

In other words, either cover your team from getting target locked, BAP affected, or NARCed; or you move around the battlefield and attempt to prevent the other team from receiving said info, plus block the UAV data-link.
