Skill has a large effect on how effective mechs are.
Currently any data collected on IS mechs vs Clan mechs has to remove some data because newer players have IS mechs and they can change how matches play out. Rather than just throwing away some data, what would be better is if new players had access to clan mechs.
I'm suggesting 1 mech in each weight class, 1 Clan and 1 IS mech. Currently if a new player wants to play the clan mechs they have the nova or the kitfox. Nova is garbage and will core itself if you alpha. Kitfox is okay but giving newer players lighter mechs really does change the results. Newer players just tend to die quicker and do less damage than more skilled players. Giving new players the option to use both when you turn on CW can give you a lot more data you don't have to throw away. The mechs people claim are overpowered are heavier anyway, Dire and Timberwolves
If clans are overpowered, then giving new players bigger clan mechs would mean that newer players would do a lot more damage and die less.
