Something that's often thrown about in arguments here, is that there's this 'silent majority' who don't voice their opinions because they never come on these forums.

Why doesn't PGI implement an ingame/in client 'poll of the week/day/month', which gives you a token reward for voting?

Reward ideas include:

A cosmetic item if you've voted X amount of times.

A small amount of GXP/MC. I would suggest something like 10GXP or 2MC per vote, if the vote is daily.

It costs them little to nothing, and would allow them to gauge player opinion on ideas they are trying to get a feel of. And people might also then be interested to see if their opinions are in the majority, or the minority.

Make it so you can only vote AFTER you've played one game on that day, so people can't just log in to vote and skew results.

Draft format would be:

1. Vote once a week, with a link to discussion threads on forums for further info.

2. Small amount reward. If poll is weekly, something like 100GXP. MC is probably something PGI may take some convincing, but as Levi pointed out below, is a reasonable idea.

3. Tier rewards for regular voting. My suggestion would be a cosmetic item, or perhaps a consumable module. Levi suggested a lump sum Cbill bonus below, which would also be nice.

4. A great suggestion by Levi would be having a comprehensive summary of results. I think people would actually be really interested to see what the rest of their contemporaries think.

5. Restrictions to avoid farming/vote spamming. I'd suggest only allow voting with accounts who play X amount of games within a certain time frame, and have played a certain number of games in total.

If I got 2MC or 10GXP every time I gave my opinion, I'd be a very rich man. ;)

Ha no! MC for free other than in a tourny or other promotion. Won't happen!

Well if you played a game every day and voted every day, I'm sure 3650GXP or ~700MC a year would be a fair price to pay you for your time ;)

Which is why I suggested GXP. Plenty of non-premium players would appreciate even a token amount of that.

It would definitely be a good way to get people voting. That said it's more likely be GXP than MC, and if it was MC we'd probably be talking tiny tiny amounts - like just enough to buy a single MC arty/air-strikes/UAV.

1 - Integrate polling into the client. Perhaps have a tab dedicated to Community, including links to Command Chair posts, Announcements, Patch Notes, and Official Polls.

2 - Offer a small incentive to vote in every poll. Make it enough that people care, but not enough that people start making alts to try to accrue more vote rewards. Say, 25 MC, assuming weekly or bi-weekly votes.

3 - Add milestone bonuses (for example: 50th vote gets a bonus 2 million c-bills or whatever).

4 - Make sure to add some kind of follow-up at the conclusion of each poll. This could be as simple as a "thanks for voting" message, or as complicated as an in-depth report on the voting analytics and what it means for the game going forward.

5 - Be sure to limit voting to accounts with 25+ games played. This is the same as the limit for forum posting permission, and would help to reduce alt spam for vote inflation.

One of the best ways to get people to purchase a pay currency is to give them enough that they are almost able to buy something that they really want. They'll see it sitting there in their account balance, unable to do anything with it, and many of them will break down and purchase a minimum MC pack. Some of those people then will decide that, since they're gonna buy some anyway, they should go for economy of scale and will buy a larger pack.

In many f2p games, the biggest hurdle is getting people to make that first purchase. Once the first one is done, a player gets a sense of buy-in (in this case, literally), which makes it far more likely for that player to make more purchases. This is even more true if they continue to find themselves with almost but not quite enough pay currency.

All good ideas. I'll add them to the OP with credit to you.

For the first poll I'd suggest:

Do you visit the official MWO forums:

1. Daily
2. Weekly
3. Monthly
4. Only to read official announcements
5. Almost never/Never

Ok, if that is the case the mc award would/must be enough to matter. So how much? mechbay=300? nope. How much for your enticement when they got it already for free with cbills?

I'd say give 10MC a vote, if polls are weekly.

That would give you 700 MC, roughly 2 mechbays a year.

Which is a nice reward, but nothing too much considering that they already give out mechbays for free during those Event weekends anyway.

I think its for a good cause though. At least in this case, PGI would get useful information on critical issues, from players that actually play the game.

ain't buying much with 1-10mc... I say why not give that amount away. Maybe if the player is loyal enough after a year or 2 he could get 75mc together and buy a single shot camo for a single mech chassis. Can't see the harm in rewarding something like that over that amount of time XD

Likely that player would have been converted to paying player by then if he's stll here anyway and knows buying anything less than 30-50$ of mc doesn't get you ****.

games often find a way to distribute the current mc in circulation through out the population. this usually prompts more buying rather than giving it away.

Not too sure if PGI will give out GXP or especially MC for voting on a poll. That said, I think a lot of players would vote on a given poll if it were easy to access. Having it in U.I. would be fantastic.

Pretty good idea. Sure there's a vast majority that don't visit the forums and if they do, not often. Maybe make the poll on the launcher tho and make it noticeable.
