I knew it wasn't my GPU, since I have a GeForce 650 ti Boost, and it should have more than enough capability to run this game. I figured the problem was my processor: a Sandy Bridge Core i3-2105 at 3.1GHz. I knew that MWO is very CPU intensive and that a quad core is the minimum recommended processor. I thought that I was going to have to give in and buy an i5 and spend about $200.
Then I remembered that sometimes turning off hyperthreading makes the processor run more efficiently and can boost performance. I went into my BIOS and disabled it. Sure enough, the game ran so much better that I was able to turn all the settings to high and raise the resolution to my monitor maximum. Now I have the game running smoothly and the game looks better than ever.
If any of you guys have Core i3 processors and are having trouble running the game, try disabling hyperthreading. It definitely helped me, and you might be able to boost your performance as well.
I'm also curious to know if disabling hyperthreading on Core i7 processors would make any difference. If any of you guys care to try it, let me know if it makes things any better.
