Patch Notes - 1.3.286 - 29-Apr-2014

View PostNikolai Lubkiewicz said:

General

The following configuration variables have been exposed for tuning in your user.cfg file. To add these to your user.cfg file navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online (or your custom installation location) and if it doesn't exist, create a file user.cfg containing these settings as desired. Don't forget to set the value desired.

- gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass=0/1 (off/on)
- r_DepthOfField=0/1 (off/on)
- r_HDRGrainAmount=0.0-1.0 (film grain amount)

DX9 & DX11
"r_DepthOfField" & "r_HDRGrainAmount" are no longer working in my "user.cfg". Took so very long for us to get these options, please fix them.

Examples below... *Please click images for full resolution.

The image below quite clearly shows that the only thing that affects Depth of Field is lowering the "Post Processing" advanced video option from inside the game itself.
Spoiler

Below is two screenshots spliced into one, an example of the Film Grain setting having no effect. While this is simply a static picture, in game it is similar to watching static on an old TV swirling around. My monitor has a sharpness feature that makes it stand out quite dramatically.
Spoiler

On a related note, turning on Anti-Aliasing with or without a "user.cfg" either diminishes or removes Film Grain. I'm not sure which, but the FPS loss is quite significant regardless.
Spoiler

Lastly, I'm not sure what is or is not to be trusted in MW:O's "Omicron.log" file, but here are the related entries.
  • <16:58:33>r_HDRGrainAmount = 0 [RESTRICTEDMODE]
  • <16:58:33>r_DepthOfField = 0 [RESTRICTEDMODE]

Bumping for great justice.

I've noticed some significant, mysterious blurring lately but have not had time to do any detailed analysis. I do not wish for a blurry game experience, especially combined with the environmental effects already present on most of the maps.

I've noticed they do not work for me as well.... Seems like every 3rd patch screws this up

No change with the latest patch. User.cfg tweaks for Film Grain & Depth of Field still have no effect.

This thread was started in the previous patches forum, guess it got moved to general with the new patch. Maybe I can get it moved to the new one.

I honestly can't play this game long with film grain on. It hurts my eyes and gives me a headache.
