I know that a desktop is better, but I travel a lot; so I was thinking about this Alienware 17:

Intel® Core™ i7-4710MQ (6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz w/ Intel® Turbo Boost)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 860M with GDDR5 2 GB
DDR3L 8 GB - 1.600 MHz

What do you think about it?

Are there other pre-build cheaper or better?

and what about this one?
ASUS N750JK-T4134H

Intel® Core™i7-4710HQ (2.50 GHz)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 850M

16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
1 TB SATA 5400 rpm

For the price of that Alienware you could get both a decent laptop and a really good gaming tower. I would avoid the expensive laptop.

if possiable, try to get 4810mq, i have 4700mq and it bottlenecks the system, 4710 is not much diffrent.

also, go for gtx 970m, apprently 860m is not powerful enouff if you want to max all graphics in 1080p. i have 8970m which is more powerful then 860m and it is still not good enough if you want to max setting.

i would suggest go for clevo labtops.

Go to xoticpc and you will see the same hardware specs or better for the same or lower price from pretty much every major gaming laptop manufacturer.

I have a Gigabyte with a 4710M and GTX 870M. It's enough to make MWO playable at high settings. With a mobile CPU, the horsepower isn't going to be there for particles, so I leave particles at medium.

 $4K.............. wow man, custom liquid loops(X2). I7(E-haswell+DDR4) + 980SLI + 3 1080P 144hz Gsync monitors would barely run you near that. Not to mention that overclocking said E-haswell processor would allow you to travel back in time when you reach 88MPH............

Why would you go to newegg for something that will be 50-300 cheaper on xoticpc? You can find a 17" with a 4810M and GTX 970M for probably $2k or less...

EDIT: most laptops will be advertised there with a 4710M, but can be upgraded to the 4810M, and some will be advertised with an 870M or 880M, but can be upgraded to a 970M or 980M so you actually have to look at the customization options.

Highly recommend checking out all of the custom pc/laptop sites. Just do a search, then check reviews.

They pretty much all source their chassis from the same OEMs, so the differences are in the upgrade options they make available and price.

Don't buy alienware. Buy MSI or sager.
If you're not willing to shell out that kind of money, buy acer. Acer gives you lots of omph at a good price, but the build quality is questionable.

But whatever you do, don't buy alienware. I can't stress this enough. You pay sager prices for Acer build quality.

Thx all for tips.

BTW, yes, I'm searching websites, and benchmark sites as well; because it's passed 5 years since my last purchse.
Many things have changed.

I think Alienware and MSi are out of my range, and so any notebook with GTX 970M: my budget will be around 1500$.

another look on newegg, this time a windows with i7 and 970m under $1500, there was 1 result:
ASUS ROG G751 Series G751JT-CH71 Gaming Laptop for $1499: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834232202
i7 4710HQ (2.5GHz Quad Core)
16GB RAM (2x8GB DDR3 1600MHz)
1TB 7200RPM HDD
Dedicated 3GB GTX 970m
17.3" @ 1080P
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Dual Layer DVD/CD Writer
Free Software bundle with purchase, Limited offer (Intel Software starter pack, $200 Value)

there are a few custom options, but what's listed above is cheapest. Options are:
CPU: 4710HQ (2.5GHz) or 4860HQ (2.4GHz)
GPU: 970m or 980m
SSD: No SSD, 256GB or 512GB
RAM: 16GB, 24GB or 32GB

cheapest build for the 4860HQ is:
4860HQ
980m (970m is greyed out so only available with 4710HQ)
512GB SSD (other 2 options Greyed out)
32GB RAM (other 2 Greyed out)
Cost: $2824, was $2999

if you want a SSD, you can add a 256GB to the $1499 Build, would raise price to $1749, Was $1899 (Extra $250 for 256GB SSD, Was +$150 on top of that so it used to be $400 for a 256GB SSD)

$1230: http://www.xoticpc.c...?wconfigure=yes

Unfortunately, that one in particular doesnt have the CPU upgrade option. You get the idea, though. Look at the machines in your price range on xoticpc and you will find something you're happy with.

in that case, my suggestion is that go for 4710 MQ and gtx 970m. i think MSI and clevo/sager has options that combined gtx970m with 4710mq.

4710 mq is not a bad cpu at all, it is just that it has low max turbo clock rate (I think 3.5 ghz for a brief while under turboboost) which would make MWO spikes down to about 40 ish framerate sometimes under 1080p mixed settings. the reason i suggest why it is better to give out extra 300 or more to get a more decent GPU is that you have to understand once you get the labtop, pretty much the only thing you can upgrade is ram and memory. even if you choose sager labtop which could be upgraded, the price and the lack of second hand market means it is prohibitively expensive to upgrade( i am talking about an 1000 USD on the new GTX 980M chip on E-bay). if you get a gpu/cpu that is barely good enough (850m), chances are it will be obsolete very quickly in a year or two as games are more demanding. so you got to understand what are your priorities and what you can upgrade( ram/memory) versus what you are stuck with once you made the decision( the screen type, cpu, gpu).

also, i would suggest go to a website call passmark and check the gpu and cpu score to have a brief understanding of its relative processing power. it is not the most accurate index of actual in game performance but it offers a very good brief concept about the value you are getting.

like i said, please save up the extra 200 or 300 dollars. trust me you will thank me later in a year or two when you gtx 980m deliver you playable framerates while 850m struggles. if that means minimal ram and storage in the case of sager labtops, do it as sager overprice in memory and ram anyways and you could always add better ram and memory at a cheaper price.

Sager NP8652 (Clevo P650SG) 4720hq, (3.6 ghz turbo boost), gtx 980m( equal to desktop gtx 770, powerful!), 8gb ram, 1 tb storage, ips display 1521 usd. <-----best deal i think, would last you a while with all max/ high settings. hell i'd buy one if i do not have a clevo labtop a year ago.

. you dont really need 4k at 15.6 inch as the Pixel per inch for 1080p is already 140 ish which is very very good. you can upgrade your own storage or ram later when you felt like there is a need for more.

FYI for comparison, http://www.tomshardw...iew,3107-7.html places the 970m with the Desktop GTX 580 & 670 on the Nvidia side, on the AMD side it's Equivalent to the Radeom HD 5970, 7870 LE (XT), 7950, R9 280 & R9 285.
Best Mobile GPU on the AMD Side is the 7970m that's in the same place as the Radeon HD 4870 X2, 6970, 7850 & R7 265 on the AMD Side, on the Nvidia Mobile side it's paired with the 680M & 780M and when it come to desktops, the 295, 480, 570, & 660
there's 1 spot in the middle with the 880m for Nvidia mobile and the 660Ti & 760 on the Desktop side, on the AMD side there's the Radeon HD 7870, R9 270 & 270X

had another look on newegg and added the 880m and 870m to the search and found 3 more results for under $1500, all 3 got the 870m that I would guess is on par with the 680m & 780m therefore the 7970m also? a Open Box MSI with 16GB RAM, i7 4710HQ 1TB HDD & 3x128GB SSD in RAID with a 6GB GDDR5 GTX 870m for $1440, was $1900 but currently listed as out of stock.

the other 2 are Currently $1200 Each:
MSI GT Series GT70 Dominator-895 Gaming Laptop for $1200, Was $1400: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834152554
i7 4800MQ (2.7GHZ Quad Core, Max Turbo of 3.7GHz)
3GB GTX 870m
1x8GB 1600MHz RAM, 1TB 7200RPM HDD
17.3" 1080P
Windows 8.1 64 Bit
DVD Super Multi Burner

GIGABYTE P25Wv2-SP2 Gaming Laptop for $1200, Was $1500, Promo code for $100 off but i'm not sure if that's part of the $300 that's already taken off or if it would bring it down to $1100: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834233060
i7 4710HQ (2.5GHz Quad core)
3GB GDDR5 GTX 870m
8GB RAM, 1TB 7200RPM HDD
15.6" 1080P
Windows 8.1 64 Bit

Keep in mind, when it comes to MWO CPU>GPU

Edit: Xoticpc got the MSI GT70 Dominator-895 listed also with some custom CPU Options, you could downgrade from the 4800MQ to the 4710MQ (0.2GHz Downgrade, the MQ Got Turbo boost that the HQ Don't have?) for a $25 Discount or upgrade to the 4910MQ (+0.2GHz, +2MB Cache) for $245 that would bring it up from $1200 to $1445. you could also upgrade Ram, you could add a 4GB for $40 to make it 12GB (1x4GB+1x8GB=12GB Dual Channel) or for $10 more than that ($50) you could do 16GB (4x4GB Dual Channel), Either of those 2 RAM Options with CPU Upgrade would bring it up to $1485-1495, still under the $1500 Budget: http://www.xoticpc.c...?wconfigure=yes

This is the machine I got on black Friday. It was worth the $1000 I spent on it then, but with better options on xoticpc now that the price has gone back up, I'd be haard-pressed to recommend it. You can custom-configure a machine with a 4810M and 860M or 870M and still be within the OPs budget.

if MWO Only or something where he would only need 60-120GB of storage, he might be able to replace the 1TB HDD with a 60-120GB SSD, Although that may Slightly Bring him over budget by like $15-16 or so if he goes for the 120GB Samsung 840 EVO, maybe a Bit less if he goes for a 60GB-128GB mSATA SSD
