Hey guys... I'm just waiting on a cue for CW... Ayep... not much happening.

As I'm sitting here able to do nothing with MWO and am thus forced to alt-tab out, I started thinking. Many of the issues with the wait times in CW are rooted in not being able to get a full 12-man group going.

But what if we whittled those numbers down. In the lore, it wasn't uncommon to have individual lances break off to pursue a smaller objective, run guerilla attacks, conduct small objective raids, or recon ahead. While I would imagine a much smaller piece of a world would be earned than in the case of major 12 on 12 conflicts, tiny 4-on-4 games could make for a very different feel to the game, and help to relieve the difficulty of finding enough players to get a decent drop. I can tell you that it's the standard match size for a Tabletop game, unless you have much better concentration than the average player.

Myself, I think this would be a great idea, and would hugely reduce the wait times for pugs and small groups to get to play - especially if they go on Offense, but I thought I might bounce it off of you guys, first.

I would imagine this has to be in planning.

Anyone remember MechCommander? There are plenty of missions / contracts that could be fulfilled by smaller scout or tactical forces.

Small matches could take place on planetary moons. "Secure communication array", "destroy depot", "strike force" ; all pre-planetary invasion missions that would still fit in the CW concept

In all honestly, most of the matches in a Planetary Assault SHOULD be lance vs lance or run as skirmish or Assault. Ultimately CULMINATING in a base assault to win the planet. You could have a few Base assaults in the 10 game rotation to treat them as continents or some other large section of the planet.

NBT ran this way 10 years ago and its still the best representation of planetary system.

Myself, I was thinking more of a cue based on the rate of players joining the drop, and the number of opponents.

Like... it would still be possible to get ghost drops if nobody can muster a 12-man, but I would imagine that it would make sense to have a count-down timer on every world with a five-minute delay marking a "Drop time". So long as neither side had a group of 5 or greater, they could break off into lance-sized fights, with priority on unit groups. This could give pugs and small units a greater reason to want to drop on an unpopulated world, rather than on the same planet with the 60+ cue.
