Allow me the pleasure of introducing the powerful and mighty Clan Smoke Trees!
Born when the powerful and fair-minded Hanse Karensky tired of endlessly fighting for such meaningless ideals as "honor" or "power" or "glory", and instead decided that his skill in battle should always be used to preserve and protect, rather than destroy and pillage.
Named after the smoke tree of Strana Mechty - a genetically modified tree, shaped to better with-stand the harsh conditions of the planet, and the sharp claws of climbing smoke jaguars - the clan values the ideals of these mighty arboreals:
- Stoic non-aggression. Just as the smoke tree does not attack its enemies, but depends on slight chemical changes to make its taste unpalatable to its natural predators, so does Clan Smoke Trees never attack, and instead simply defends with weaponry and superior skill, that ensure the safety of its enemies. This is possible because of the clan's intense training and dedication to a worthy cause, but also because they have formed a caste-less society, where free exchange of ideas is key. As a result, tactics have advanced many centuries beyond those of their primitive clan cousins, or the stone-age like Inner Sphere.
- Defense of those within its leafy embrace. Just as the smoke tree lets its lower branches bend, to create shelter for those beneath them, so does Clan Smoke Trees protect all that ask for it. Such a feat would be impossible for lesser 'Mech jockeys, but for Clan Smoke Trees, the defense of those in need is an ideal sacrificing everything for, and as such they have gained everything through their sacrifices.
- Nourishment of the bottom of society as well as the top. The smoke tree has deep roots, and high upper branches. It stretches its mighty frame to the sky, but is securely fastened on the ground. Such a magnificent display is simply not possible, without the full understanding and commitment of the whole tree - from strong roots, over sturdy and industrious trunks, to branches that reach ever for great glory. Such is the society of Clan Smoke Trees - free, completely socially mobile, and based around ideals of true strength: The courage to face honest criticism from your peers, the valor to face one's own failures and improve, and the power of acting from a morally defensible position. In Clan Smoke Trees there are no divisions of the rich and poor, the free and the enslaved. In Clan Smoke Trees all are equal, and decisions are made with only consideration for the greater commonality - a commonality that includes the enemies of Clan Smoke Trees.
Now, a year from now, Clan Smoke Trees will show its might to the InnerSphere, and demonstrate the might of semi-pacifistic, tactically advanced and strategically super-powered warfare!!!
We are currently not recruiting openly, but if you catch our eye, by acts of kindness and true valor, then maybe you will find that smoke tree branch on your Mech's dashboard one day. When you do, light it on fire as you hold it from the highest point around, and let all see your dedication to our powerful cause!
Now I, the Grand Star Emperor of Clan Smoke Trees, Third Flower, will answer your questions!

Please don't post memes in the Clan Smoke Trees thread. Clan Smoke Trees believes in memetic frugality, and your post does not adhere to our principle of informed, critical self-reflection.
Edit: Also, your juvenile attempts at meeting the unknown with foolish bravado should be of serious concern to yourself. I would counsel exploration and mastery of your own temperament, before you try to explore and master the realm of tempered steel.

Hanse Karensky turned his mighty attention to the disciple, and was silent for a moment. Then, with a voice that carried the strength of the oak and the wisdom of the willow, he asked of his disciple: "Think of the tree that has been wounded by an iron spike. What does it do?"
The disciple, being an avid and dedicated gardener in his spare time, knew the answer "It grows around the spike, and absorbs it!"
Hanse smiled, for he knew that he had shared his wisdom this day.

Edit: Like the mighty smoke tree grows at its own, measured pace, responses come in their appropriate time. Do not bow out, Amarus Cameron - challenge yourself and grow!

Honestly I just did not want to legitimately make you rage, was just poking fun at the really close name to my own Clan's
I did not realize this thread was going to be a venue for debate...of what I do not know but it seems to be going that way. Fine I will keep checking this thread but your guruish disconnect with emotional response is offsetting and not something one normally encounters on forum boards. I may just lurk and laugh at the crazy responses.

I have been called a guru, and I have been called a ******* *** ****** ******* ****** ******. The truth is, I am Third Flower, and I embrace that I have the potential and desire to be both, at certain times. Do not feel set-off, for I am as you, except that I have seen what the smoke trees hide. There is no mysticism to our way - there is no esoteric knowledge. There is only the practical reflections on complex matters - the courage to examine closely the self as well as the other. That it sounds unusual for a forum board is no surprise, I agree, but that should be a cause for alarm: We need more of this, not less!
