As a kid, I used to be a fan of the Battletech cartoon, and I remember liking the Axeman Mech a lot. I was curious if this would be a Mech the developer would consider. I don't know how close this mech is to the core cannon of the series, but I always thought of it as an unusual Mech.

I understand the axe would probably need to be removed due to weapons balance issues at short range (or might not even be possible with the game engine), but none the less I think it would be really cool to see the Mech in the game. I suppose removing the axe would kind of remove the originality of the machine, but I know there are other variants as well that don't utilize the axe.

I especially think this Mech would be a cool edition to the game since I do not remember seeing this Mech in any previous Mechwarrior video games.

(P.S. sorry for the grammer snafu in the title :) )

Just an idea.

I think we will see close combat Mechs in the future, its more important to get the game run smoothly before anything complex is added.
As punching and kicking are 1 of the fun aspects of the TT game i for one would like to see close combat added to MWO.

When they add melee combat into the game expect to see a slew of combat mechs.

Possibility, yes! Be sure to scream HARD for melee next year before clan launch! IS mechs tend to be much more.. um, fisty, than clan mechs.

Hatchetman and Axman would be great as the first melee combat mechs added when they finally add melee to the game.

I do think the melee might be a nice edition anyway if they find they needed more balance (such as the heavy and assault classes being over-powered). Nothing like a quicker machine staying out of the weapon sights of the Atlas and hacking away at it's limbs.

I'd imagine a good balance between Mech classes must be a bit tricky considering the video game series history with other Mechwarrior titles.

None of the early melee mechs (as in using a melee weapon were fast. Hatchet man was a 45 tonner that had a top speed of 64 km/h with only 6.5 tons of armor. Axman was a heavy that ran at the same speed but had11.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor. Probably be tricky balancing the hatchetman to be viable. Axman would be a bit easier to balance.

Don't count on ever seeing melee combat in this game. There is already so much that the devs have planned to include, that unplanned / not considered features like melee combat will be taking a back seat for a loooooong time.

Death From Above was one of the few tactics that ever worked very well for me when fighting IS vs. Clan. Clan mechs tend to laugh at our puny IS tech. But they don't laugh when I drop a Wolverine on their heads.

Probably because it's the only way they can do any harm to beasts like Mad Cat ;)

That's why I stay away from edges / hills and pop those melee mechs before they even start screaming.

FYI Death From Above has been confirmed. As for melee combat, the only thing I can find from the devs is this...

Quote

[DAVID] The greatest challenge when it comes to combat would be properly implementing melee combat. As a result, this is something that we’re going to put on hold until we know we can do it right

The Devs want to do it at least, but we might not see melee combat... But at least we can do the Mario.
