Problems i have with games that just give you stuff are simple. In the battletech universe you didn't just get a mech lol. Ok you had to take classes even be apart of the military u needed a license. This is a living breathing world like the one we live in ok if you were lucky enough they gave you a locust or wasp when you graduated not a atlas or even a jenner lol they wouldn't just waste a billion c-bills on a rookie battlemech operator. Most became dropship gunners outer space/ Air space fighters and tank/artillery drivers. To get in a mech you went through extensive training even the rich could not afford mechs or even be able to get in them. They could buy farming mechs though to plow feilds and such and the construction crews could buy mechs to lift and help build on new discovered planets. The only other way you got one was simple Solaris the gaming planets had arena's in which they would let battlemech operators fight to the death and they used those c-bills if you lived to become the best killer possible.
You really had to be high up to get into a Atlas yes. It is a Assualt mech but what you fail to realize is its a command mech like the cyclops a two seat mech with a co-opertaor in the back for sensor relays and to control their anti-missle systems to prevent them from getting hit in the head they just didn't hand those out. Those are like the boss mechs in the battle you were lucky to find one in a battle they are heavy armed and armored for one reason the persons who operate these massive mechs are of great importance to their fraction you would have to be like fricking Hanse Davion or even Katrina Stiener to get one. When battles in the innersphere took place they knew who was in them and who to kill to end a war and kill a leader.
Light mechs are what they are, light mechs used for city fighting because they were more mobile and most had machine guns to riddle enemy house that might have troops in them. Which by all means no matter what time your in there was one fact you need to get right..machine guns did no damage to a mech which is why their are light mechs yeah some got taken out in the city by a well placed rocket or missle but if they had anti-missle systems you were just a dead fool in a building once the mech shot the missle out of the air and riddled the house with machine gun fire or lasers cause no assualt mech operators in their right mind would want to enter a city lol cause military would have rocket personel hide inside a house with inferno ammo and aim for the head from inside a building and since they were so freaking big and slow they would hit it in the head cook the operators alive and suddenly a assualt mech is no more they would never send a heavy in the city either for that same reason only meduim and lower.
Urban mechs were the most feared in city fighting fast and equipped with ac/20 most meduim mechs even feared them knowing a well placed round would take their mechs arm off and pretty much blow off a leg if it landed. Now imagine if your a lightmech the urban mech and you see this big slow mech can barley manuever in the street with out bouncing off buildings it would be a feild day you would run it up from behind where the armor is weakest and fire the ac 20 3 times blow up the reactor which was more common than you think that is why they never ever let them enter citys. I know i made the Assualt mech sound weak but each had it advantages. Light and meduim mech who dared to approach a Assualt mech from the front were dead instantly one salvo of weapon fire would blow them up cause they had no armor lets face it a ac/20 round pretty much destroyed a light mech most could barely stand a ppc shot. Scout mechs... lol they had no need for scout mechs they had outer space massive warships that could scan the entire surface of a planet. Let alone armored scout like cars/suvs and equipped with narc beacons that would relay info to command mechs and that would bring in the line of sight and out of line of sight shots.
You shouldn't call this game Mechwarrior online it should be Battletech online. The term mechwarrior came from the clan invasion there are no clans in this game. When a clan mechwarrior landed they issued a clan message saying this was mechwarrior so and so and i am comming with this amount of forces to take your planet. Battletech is the time line your in not mechwarrior lol. Some things to think about.

I started to read your post, but got tired half way through...
What was your point again?

Either way, this is a Mechwarrior game, not a battletech-universe-simulation.
I don't care if it was virtually impossible to get an Atlas or not, we don't want this game to turn into an arms race, do we?

Please read through the Dev blogs.

We are not making BattleTech Online.. we are making MechWarrior Online, and yes, there is quite a bit of difference between the two.
