That is correct. But with St. Ives allready in capellan hands one could say Xin-Shen started a bit earlier. :)

Let's go with that one.

It always starts on the Fringe.

At this point in history, the ranks in the CCAF are, from the top:

Senior Colonel: One of these per Commonality, the military director for that portion of the Confederation.
Colonel: Regimental-level commanders for both line and reserve forces.
Major: Serves either as a tactical director for a Commonality or as a field rank, commands a battalion-level unit or Home Guard regiment.
Captain: Occasionally a planetary defense co-ordinator, field-commands a 'Mech company/6 aerospace fighters. Command rank for Confederation Militia regiments or Home Guard battalions.
Commander: Officer running a 'Mech or aerospace lance, command rank for a Home Guard company.
Subcommander: 'Mech or aerospace fighter pilot.

(Enlisted)
Force Leader: Senior staff in a 'Mech regiment (and occasional company-level commanders in a pinch), also used as leads for armor and artillery company in non-'Mech units.
Assistant Force Leader: Regular staff in a 'Mech regiment (occasionally lance-level commanders in a pinch), run lances of armor and artillery as well.
Lance Sgt. : A Tech or medical personnel in a 'Mech regiment, also a lance-level commander for armor or an infantry platoon commander. Assistant/Force Leaders are notable in that they have 'Mech experience, while most Lances do not.
Lance Corporal: Astechs and communicatons/other specialized equipment operators. Also the command rank for a single armored vehicle, artillery piece, or infantry squad.
Recruit: The Grunt, straight out of basic training and the core of infantry units.

Correct. We use the Chinese words for these within HLGK. This becomes standard practice later, but for our purposes:

Sao-Wei = Lieutenant = Minimum Rank for MechWarriors
Sang-Wei = Captain = Lance Commander
Sao-Shao = Major = Company Commander (3 Lances)
Zhong-Shao = Lt. Colonel = Battalion Commander (3-5 Companies)
Sang-Shao = Colonel = Regimental Commander (2-5 Battalions)
