I have seen this topic covered in some old threads and in most cases it looks like no fix was found. I was struggling with the same problem for the last few days but managed to find a fairly simple if not obvious solution.

It all started when my MWO directory was corrupted and would not uninstall. I had to uninstall manually (ie recycle bin). When I tried to run the installer, I got an error message and it said that it detected a version of MWO already installed. I went back and deleted the offending keys in the registry and tried once more. I didn't get the previous install error this time but it still failed and gave me error code 0x80070643.

After hours of sifting through the registry for other MWO leftovers with no results, it occurred to me that I wasn't getting the previous install message anymore. I realized it probably had nothing to do with the registry so I went back and read the error log again. Everything looked fine up until it actually tried to execute the msi package at which point it returned the 0x80070643 error. On a hunch I checked in system services and the windows installer service had somehow been set to manual, preventing the installer from executing the package. I set it to automatic and everything worked fine.

TL DR:

If your installation fails with fatal error code 0x80070643, check system services and make sure that windows installer is set to automatic.

I've done that. Still won't install for me. :(

EDIT: For clarification, I have:
  • Cleaned my registry of all MWO/PGI-related things
  • Removed all MWO folders from both my drives
  • Updated my NVIDIA driver (hey, gotta be sure)
  • Made sure my Windows Installer was working, and checked Windows Installer integrity with sfc/scannow (turned up normal)
  • Tried installing in safe mode (did not work; got a 0x80070641 error instead)
  • Made sure Windows/DirectX/etc. was up to date (sure was)
Still got the same error. I'm honestly stumped on what's holding up the installer.

Greetings all,

Quite a few errors of that code indicate the .NET Framework is the issue.
- Not having the latest or correct install, or all the required installs.

Check for those updates, reboot, them try the MW install again.
Note: from my system net framework is at,
4.5.2 (1/14/2015) ver.4.5.51209
on Wn7 64bit

Just some info,
9erRed

Having the same issue.

Have had no luck, and have searched and removed everything Mwo/pgi related still getting the same error message, I'm almost at wits end with this.

I just recently updated and logged into Warframe. Figured I would go back to the online games I've left behind.

That included MWO.

For some reason, though I never touched MWO for like 1.5years, when I checked it's uninstall option in Programs and Features, it told me that the game "seemed to have been uninstalled already."

I figured that...maybe I just needed to delete all folders and registry manually.

A friend from Steam helped me find solutions to this:

Quote

MV: the only thing i found was this
http://mwomercs.com/...03#entry1348703

MV: Step 3: Reinstall the Game
If you need to re-install the game, please do it the following way:

1) Go to Control Panel -> Uninstall MechWarrior Online

2) Check the install directories and remove any folders leftover
** Path: C:\Program Files(x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online

3) Delete files from temp folders:
** Path: C:\Users\*Your Windows Session’s ID*\AppData\Local\Package Cache
** Path: C:\Users\*Your Windows Session’s ID*\AppData\Local\TEMP\MechWarrior Online

4) Clean up registry keys, there are a variety of third-party tools which can do this.
** You can download one free here: http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER

5) Run the application with the default options

6) Clear your browser cache

7) Restart the computer

ABOVE STEPS RESULTED IN MWO NOT ABLE TO INSTALL DUE TO IT "BEING INSTALLED ALREADY."

As for me, this problem was fixed by: https://support.micr...l_and_uninstall
