Bored to tears with the current "everything is a variant of skirmish" play, I wondered if this would be an interesting game mode.
Overview.
A ship has crashed or people have been stranded. You must rescue or capture 7 of 12 and bring them back to safety at your base or prevent the enemy from capturing them by killing the mech that has them OR rescuing them from their stranded vehicle or the enemy base. If neither team can get 7 survivors to their base it is a loss for both teams so be careful on killing mechs with a survivor.
Gameplay
Each team gets a base like assault mode with no turrets.
A single cap point will be used for representing the stranded survivors at their vehicle.
The timer represents how much time before the survivors perish making the mission moot.
Each team must have a mech stand on base for a period similar to capping. Only 1 mech will get a survivor loaded at a time. No more than 1 survivor from the cap may be carried at any one time from the cap.
The mech with the survivor must unload at their base for the same amount of time. Once unloaded, another survivor is able to be rescued/captured.
Repeat until all 12 survivors have left the cap or once a team has 7 survivors at their base.
If all enemy mechs are destroyed all remaining survivors on the cap, in a mech or in the destroyed team's base die from self destruct. This will exclude teamkilling and suicide. If six survivors die, the match is lost by both sides.
Survivors can be rescued/captured from the enemy base. These do not count against the original 1 survivor count. (Aka only 1 new survivor at a time, but all survivors in play are fair game.)
Complications
The mech with the survivor will act as if narced, giving away its position so you can't hide or hold the game hostage by grabbing the important last survivor and hiding.
Cap has a BAP so ecm does not work there.
capturing a survivor can be done with both teams on base. The mech that was first on for the continuous time gets the survivor.

I dunno. I think this would be different enough with enough of a brawl mixed with strategy to make a different feel for it all. Scouting and stealth would be critical. You can't just deathmatch the whole game in a murderball either. And that is the point. Oh... and a crazy light pilot would be able to go full gloryhound capturing survivors from unguarded enemy bases.
It would really be crazy if you had 3 stranded
vehicles with 4 survivors each and you wouldn't know it was empty till you capped for one. I think I like that even more
