I have a question regarding RAM speed. Many of you helped me with the build of my current rig last June. Some current specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4820K 3.70 GHz, 130 W
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: Asus P9X79 ATX LGA2011
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 (9:9:9:24)

With CPU-Z I noted that my 1600 RAM was actually working at 1333. I then activated (correct word?) XMP in the BIOS and the RAM did change to 1600. So far so good.

I have never manually overclocked anything but the MB comes with optimizing/overclocking software (AI Suite II 2.04.01). I used this to do 1 step up of CPU overclocking which changed the bus speed from 100 to 125 and then with a 36 multiplier had me at 4.5GHz (approximate) and 1.440-1.448 V (it varies when observing with CPU-Z). The XMP however was turned off and my RAM speed was back to 1333. I went back into the BIOS and turned the XMP back on but then the bus speed went back to 100 so I was back to stock CPU speed. Is there a way to keep 4.5 GHz CPU and1600 RAM speed?

Thank you for any input.

You should be able to manually set everything. The bclk or gear ratio can be set manually in most BIOSes, and then the CPU and RAM multipliers need to be set as well. Don't forget about setting proper voltage! It may or may not be necessary to also look at the RAM timings as well. Sounds like you should already have a good idea of how to at least get the baseline :)

You will spend a lot of time with one of these two before you ever boot back into your OS
