House and Clan Loyalist units need the ability to create temporary contracts with each other (no crossovers from house to clan or clan to house...only house to house and clan to clan). IS units could contract with other IS Houses and Clan units with other Clans. No crossover from clan to house or house to clan...only same side contracts allowed. One contract allowed at a time. Having the contract allows the unit to attack/defend the attackable/defendable planets of the faction they are in contract with and gain loyalty points for that faction just like a merc contract except limited to the side, IS House or Clan loyalty would allow no crossover contracts from IS House to Clan or Clan to IS House...only clan for clan and IS House for IS House. Additionally, the contract units would only be able to attack/defend versus Clans for House Loyalists and IS Houses for Clan Loyalists. In other words no helping your ally for Clan on Clan or IS House on IS House. The contracting unit will maintain it's affiliation and tags with it's home faction. Additionally, these units will still be able to attack/defend their home faction's planets without any restrictions.

This sounds reasonable, in practice it would be rare for two clans or two houses to work so closely together. Proxy warfare using Merc Units fills this gap. In this low population game, such alliance contracts would easily be abused.

One unit of House X allies with another House Unit Y, while the rulers of the House X would not allow this.

Units have to change loyalties for a limited time, and that is what the game currently allows us to do, and is reasonable.

I should clarify that what I had in mind would be only to allow attacking of clan by house or house by clan, not anything else such as house on house or clan on clan. So some restrictions would remain in that respect. As for House leadership decisions, that would be up to the individual units to decide whether to follow or not to follow, which is how it works already.

As for loyalties, the unit would still be loyal to their home faction and fight as that faction just like defense works now, but they would gain loyalty points of the faction the contract is held with when attacking or defending on the contract faction's planets.

EXAMPLE 1 ONLY CLAN ENEMIES: TTK (FWLM Loyalist Unit) decides to contract with FRR. TTK remains an FWLM Loyalist Unit, but while under contract with FRR they can attack clan planets that FRR can attack and defend against clan attackers of FRR planets. While under this contract the unit gains FRR loyalty points for engaging clan units on behalf of FRR. TTK will remain a House Marik unit and will not lose it's ability to attack or defend for House Marik while in this contract.

Example 2 BOTH CLAN and IS ENEMIES: TTK (FWLM Loyalist Unit) decides to contract with Kurita. TTK remains an FWLM Loyalist Unit, but while under contract with Kurita they can attack clan planets that Kurita can attack and defend against clan attackers of Kurita planets. While under this contract the unit gains Kurita loyalty points for engaging clan units on behalf of Kurita. TTK will remain a House Marik unit and will not lose it's ability to attack or defend for House Marik while in this contract. Additionally, since Kurita also has an active front with Davion, attacks/defenses involving Davion, an IS faction, would not be allowed because Davion is an IS faction.

I'm totally okay with this. Would add some flavor while allowing people to stay in their favored faction while slowly earning rewards for the others without totally abandoning their own.

Probably something that would also benefit those crazy roleplay junkies as well.
