A little tired today, appologies if this post isn't very complete or fluffy.

Build idea.
Want it.
Already have XL400 engine.
Have 11mill c-bills stored up from CW event + selling stormcrow.
XL in a battlemaster, is it viable?

Thoughts?
Thanks.

Yeah, it is. The battlemaster's torso hitboxes are wierd, and it's easy to spread damage around.

As far as assaults go, the BLR is one of the better ones to run an XL on.

That build's certainly not what I'd want to do, but to each their own.

One of my favourite mechs (usually run the 1G(P)). I almost always run it with XL and survive decently. Although my best success is playing peek-a-boo with LPL in the high-mounted slots, not brawling unless I have to. I can't really comment on a brawler XL build like you have.

Also, XL 400 is appealing but I was actually able to get better cooling/DPS overall with an XL 375. Something to consider.

Being constantly out in the open at close range is not good, but if you are long range or like to duck under cover it should be fine.

SRM-4s sync better with the recharge rate of medium pulse lasers.

Also, obligatory in any Battlemaster build thread:

Mixing it up sometimes and using a Standard Engine engine occasionally is also a good idea, especially the higher your elo. More experienced players pretty much assume that you have an XL and so aim for your weaker and easy to shoot STs as opposed to the CT.

XL engine, (1) LPL + (2) ML/MPL in each torso and missiles or ballistics depending upon available hard-points.

BLR - 1D (4) LL and has 3 ballistic slots so i used 3 machine guns and sheild with my other arm.
BLR - 1S has 2 ballistics and 1 energy in hand so 2 MGs and 1 ML tied together.
BLR - 3S 2 SRM 6's in left torso and right hand

enjoy ripping off components with quirk humping builds. :)

OR! for sh*ts and giggles be creative figure out something that works for you

EDIT: didn't post smurfy links because apparently i suck at it lol

You described the 1G here.

Anyway, Battlemasters. Battlemasters need a big XL and double basics unlocked to really come alive. Three of my BLRs run 400XL (1G[P], 3M, and 3S), 2 of them the 375XL (1D and Hellslinger), and one of them has a comparatively paltry 340XL (the 1S rigged as LRM support). Try not to get too caught up in the quirks, the weapon specific quirks can lead you down a path best left alone. Just as an example, the 1D has Large Laser specific quirks, but I get good results out of 5xML and 3xAC2.

The general rule with fast Battlemasters is to weave in and out of cover as best you can. Most mechs that you can't outrun you can outfight. Be careful around clan mechs, though, their speed and firepower are often at least your equal, and your armor advantage won't be enough to tip the scales in your favor. The best defensive you have against them is sticking with the team.

I'll chime in even though I haven't been playing my BM's lately... However I still have my phoenix variant set up with a XL 400... I believe I'm running my 1G with dual AC5s and a linked PPC.. With 6 ML as backups.. I think. If I had slightly more space in my dropships for CW I'd go for the BM as one of my CW mechs instead of my tbolts. They pretty much replaced my highlanders unless I need the jjs and rival my Victors for favorite Assault mech.
