Youve never lived until a stinger missing a leg and firing from prone with a 12 to hit, hits you with a medium laser through armor critical to the head, right to the pilot, life support, and sensors, and your mech falls with your pilot unconscious into level 0 water and drowns.
The fact that random dice rolls can lead to those sorts of situations, is whats so cool about it. Its kind of like dwarf fortress before dwarf fortress.
Mech skids turning on pavement, hits a building, which collapses on infantry, which flee to the next hex, which displaces a tank over a 3 level cliff, which falls on an Atlas, critical hitting its engine, causing a meltdown, which kills the three mechs standing around the Atlas hiding.
Nothing else offers that.

13 free testers, 1 editor, stock music, three flamers given 3 different models with a 45 degree cone of fire and 150 meters range with 3 different weapon effects and extra damage.
Short of film time with the free people and the editor, the last aspect takes about 40 seconds of value additions to a stable or test build, maybe a minute or two to tack in the model changes.
At most 20 minutes to include filming. If even that.

I do videos and such for my band. The most time consuming part is editing, and with a workstation, and a solid plan, it takes no time at all.

So you can, in theory, get some real work done when screwing around. We have a view of the cockpit -- something they were gonna do for us anyway. The April 1st gag. Check. The demonstration of a functioning 360 degree turret twist. Check. Ability to add new weapon systems without the game crashing, check.
On a side note, that's virtually nothing compared to the effort War Thunder put in creating a "World of Tanks" mode with a special World of Tanks tank made of rubber.

Greetings,
Grig: Remember, Death Blossom delivers only one massive volley at close range... theoretically.
Alex Rogan: What do you mean "theoretically?"
Grig: After all, D.B. has never been tested. It might overload the systems, blow up the
Alex Rogan: What are you worried about, Grig? Theoretically, we should already be dead!
Looks good to me.
