So I was away for a few days and when I came back MWO wont start. When I click the shortcut the MechWarrior Online logo pops up, closes, and the patcher doesn't open. I tried the repair tool and it crashes a few seconds after starting a scan. I tried running both as admin to no avail. I haven't downloaded the new patch because I was away when it was released so I don't think that is what's causing the problem. I also looked through the forums and I didn't see any posts about the game crashing this early, most were about crashing on the login screen or in-game.

Hrm, this is a new one that didn't show up in our testing. Would you be able to provide me with the bootstrap patcher log? This file would be located in the MWO install location \Bin32\PatcherLogs directory. If you installed to the default location, that translates to here:

C:\Program Files\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatcherLogs\bootstrap_patcher_log.txt

Or, if you have a 64-bit OS:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatcherLogs\bootstrap_patcher_log.txt

A copy/paste of the contents of that file would be very helpful in diagnosing the issue.

Oh, also, are you using the repair tool that comes with the game in the Bin32 directory, or are you using a version you downloaded separately? I ask because the downloaded stand-alone version no longer works correctly.

Wow, that's brand-new to me, never seen it before. Fortunately Google came to the rescue, Microsoft has a hotfix for this:
http://support.micro...en-us/kb/935434

Please go to the "Resolution" section and download and apply the hotfix. Let me know if it helps. If so, we'll add this to the knowledge base.

I followed the link in the Resolution section and it took me to a page informing me the archive has been retired. I'll try to find the hotfix somewhere else.

Oh, dang, I should have tried the download link. Sorry. I'll also seek out a proper download, but unless it's directly from Microsoft, I don't think it's trustworthy. Maybe, since that page claims it's a .NET Framework issue (which makes total sense), then maybe the .NET repair tool might help:
http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=30135

(This time I did download it and can confirm that the link still works.)

Thanks, I will try it. I am gonna try a few other fixes and I will update when I can in case someone else has this issue. I have to go somewhere in a while so it might be later tonight.

Thank you very much. It would be immensely helpful to get this into the knowledge base.

Working. Fix was to disable FIPS, which was causing problems. Not sure how it got turned on, possibly when I updated .NET framework right before leaving.

Step by Step:
Open the Run program (windows + r)

Run "regedit"

Follow the path: HKLM_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy

Change "enabled" to 0, you might have two or three files in this folder make sure it is the REG_DWORD type file.

Thanks. I saw that posted as a possible solution, was just hoping that there'd be a less technical solution in case a user gets this problem and is less computer savvy. But, it is what it is.

Thanks again for reporting back. I'll make sure our CSR team is made aware.

I having a similar problem... only no logo... tried running as admin too.

Only my path is not the one you listed. Mine is:

C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatcherLogs

Set by windows I guess?

4/7/2015 10:31:56 PM - main - Config file: C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatchBot.cfg
4/7/2015 10:31:56 PM - main - Setting null proxy to False

4/7/2015 10:31:56 PM - main - Remote patcher version: 32
4/7/2015 10:31:56 PM - main - Already up-to-date

Worked fine last night... tried the fix and didn't work... was already set to 0... what now?

It looks like you're not having any issues with the bootstrap patcher. Can you check the frontend_patcher_logs.txt file? Same directory, so the file you're looking for is:

C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatcherLogs\frontend_patcher_logs.txt

If you see anything in there with the word "exception", copy n' paste all the lines around it. If you can't identify anything that looks odd, then the last 10-15 lines in the file should suffice.

Also, check that PatcherLogs directory for any file that starts with "crashLog", and see if it was created since you've had this problem. If so, please post its contents.

Thanks.

I'm not all that great at French, but it looks like it's having trouble connecting to the server. Not entirely sure why...

Looks like an incomplete patch for some reason. Can you first ensure you have enough space on your drive to patch (around 3 or 4 GB should suffice) and then try running the Repair Tool (ensure it's running as admin).

Krist, GB is not a problem since I have way more than 4 GB available. There is hardly anything on this computer since I use it for games only.

It let me switch to 64 bit. I ran the repair tool and it had a lot of mismatches that needed fixed. The repair tool didn't finish though; it had an error that caused it to close when it got to this file:
"Downloading file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Game\norn.pak"

I thought I would re-launch and try the repair tool again, but the "patch" button was replaced with the "play" button. When I clicked on the play, I got an error saying that there was a missing pak and it told me to run the repair tool.

The repair tool stopped again with the same error on this file.
Downloading file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Game\steiner.pak

I am currently running it again right now. All runs have been as admin.

Glad to hear things are working a bit better now, although I'm surprised that you had so much trouble with the Repair Tool. You're using the one that shipped with the game, right? (As opposed to the old one that was a stand-alone download).

Also, please don't take offense to my asking simple things (like disk space and the above repair tool question), there's a wide range of skill levels among players, and I always have to cover the bases, I hope you understand.
