OK, went to launch the game today and found there was a patch waiting. Launcher seemed to download and install said patch but crashed before launching the game. I restarted the launcher and it again said patch required. When I started the patch it started to download the install base from scratch. I stopped that, flushed the dns and tried the launcher again. This time it said play, so I hit the button and logged in, only to get a popup saying a patch was available so I had to log out and run the launcher. I tried running the repair tool (several times) but after doing the scan and clicking on the fix errors button it stopped working.
Bottom line: the game won't run and the repair tool won't fix it.

EDIT: I bit the bullet and reinstalled the game.

Edit: the 1st May patch created the same issue again.

Unfortunately I cannot offer any hints. My game doesn't even load, even though I ran the repair tool/ patch thing the 1st day that the notification came out...and then the next day I had to do it again. It finally loaded every day for about 6 days, and then the day after the patch came through my game won't load at all. I've noticed over the years that every time I add MC through Mechwarrior I can count on being shouldered out from playing. Maybe a connection, maybe not.

Same with me
Patch downloaded installed finished then crashed, installed finished crashed, installed finished crashed…
Ran Repair tool, did check, found some fixes, and as soon as you pressed FIX it crashed, ran it the same and it crashed the same.
But after the repair tool had crashed the launcher said PLAY! But when I pressed the button and tried to log in it said I needed to Patch. Which I couldn’t because it said Play not patch, and would hav crashed anyway.

Seemed like a huge mess, Uninstall reinstall (note go to custom install to stop it going unto your solid state drive.) Seems to work ok now, with a fresh install.

My faith in the company gets lower every time a patch fubar's like this.

The new hot fix patch destroyed my fresh install, then…

Patch downloaded installed finished then crashed, installed finished crashed, installed finished crashed…same as before.
Ran Repair tool, did check, found some fixes, and as soon as you pressed FIX it crashed, ran it the same and it crashed the same. While trying to fix (MechWarriorOnline/Bin64/MWOclient.exe)
But after the repair tool had crashed the launcher said PLAY! But when I pressed the button and tried to log in it said I needed to Patch. Which I couldn’t because it said Play not patch, and would hav crashed anyway.

Seemed like a huge mess, Uninstalled to reinstall, most of the program uninstall BUT new twist could not get rid of (MechWarriorOnline/Bin64/MWOclient.exe) which it said was in use, so restarted the computer tried to delete (MechWarriorOnline/Bin64/MWOclient.exe) by hand but it refused to go because it was in use? Why was it in use?? Thought never mind I’ll just reinstall anyway. The installer complained that the (Piranha Games) file wasn’t empty (this is not my fault the uninstaller couldn’t get rid of this file), but I told it to install anyway.

Fresh install downloaded installed finished then crashed… rolled my eyes.
Ran Repair tool, did check, found some fixes, and I pressed FIX fixed some files, tried to fix (MechWarriorOnline/Bin64/MWOclient.exe) crashed… I give up, I need HELP!!!!!

Tried to run game it said missing PAK file run repair tool.

The 64-bit client was in use after a fresh reboot? That's very, very wrong. We in no way set any portion of the game to run on startup. If your game was installed to Program Files (or x86), is it possible that you need admin permission to delete the file? Alternatively, had the game originally been installed when using a different user account?

Beyond that, maybe try a virus scan? We aren't aware of anyone targeting our game, but I guess it is a possibility. Also, if you're using any third-party applications to manage your various settings (like maybe SweetFX or such an application), then maybe it has locked down the executable.

Krist,
I'll try and provide a bit more info after the 1 May patch:

I have run a virus scan and found nothing on my machine.

When I run the patcher the button comes up 'PLAY' but after logging in I get a popup saying a new patch is available and I need to close the patcher and apply the patch.

The file frontend_version.dll is version 1.218.0.0

The latest frontend_patcher_log.txt reads:

02/05/2015 10:42:24 - main - Config file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatchBot.cfg

02/05/2015 10:42:27 - main - Complete!
02/05/2015 10:42:29 - main - Attempting to start game client...

The latest bootstrap_patcher_log.txt reads:

02/05/2015 10:42:21 - main - Config file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\PatchBot.cfg
02/05/2015 10:42:21 - main - Setting null proxy to False
02/05/2015 10:42:21 - main - Local patcher version: 34

02/05/2015 10:42:22 - main - Remote patcher version: 34
02/05/2015 10:42:22 - main - Already up-to-date

The repair tool does the scan but when I hit 'FIX' it stops working when it reaches 'MWOClient.exe' .
Hope this helps.

Is this possibly related to the issue (and fix) from this post here? Not that it could hurt to check, from the sounds of things.

Hey guys, just did some quick tests, MechWarriorOnline.exe from the april 21th patch apparently crashes because of a non-existent temp directory normally used (and created) by the patcher.

Check your registry at 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Production', find the value TEMPFOLDER and create the path it points to, the launcher should run again afterwards.

Telmasa,
Thanks, but I have done that too (just forgot to add to the list of things I've done).

(if you're using any third-party applications)
Roger that

Uninstall game

Problem files
(MechWarriorOnline/Bin64/MWOclient.exe)
(MechWarriorOnline/Bin32/MWOclient.exe)
(MechWarriorOnlineinstaller)
Refuse to uninstall or delete (reason given ‘in use’)

Third party applications used in MechWarriorOnline (Razer Synapse) active on startup

Ctrl+alt+del
Task manager
Start-up
(Razer Synapse) change to ‘DISABLE’

Restart computer
(MechWarriorOnline/Bin64/MWOclient.exe) delete YES!
(MechWarriorOnline/Bin32/MWOclient.exe) delete YES!
(MechWarriorOnlineinstaller) delete YES!

Empty recycle bin
Restart computer

Reinstall MechWarriorOnline
Play button YES!!!
Play, login & game ‘all systems operational’ (Big Smile)

Please advise use of (Razer Synapse) in this game? I was told it was safe and recommended.

Personally I don't even know what Razer Synapse is so I went to google and entered "Razer Synapse" into the searchbox and instantly got these three search-options before pressing enter:

-Razer Synapse sucks
-Razer Synapse not working
-Razer Synapse alternative

So ...

Sigh... Well, it's a very good thing that you tracked down the problem, and I'm glad that you're back in an operational state. I'm very confused as to why Razer Synapse would lock down the client executable. That's a very bad thing. We have no other reason to advise against using it, but this would be a big problem indeed. I will need to do some research on this...

Thanks for the clue, Stardancer01.
I tried to uninstall MWOClient.exe manually and it tells me it's in use.
I don't use any third party software.
Started task manager and looked at startup and apps, and there is no sign of MWOClient.exe either being started or running anywhwere, so I'm stumped again.

Try Resource Monitor, it's included in Windows (at least in 7, no 8 at hand to verify).
On the CPU tab find the "Search Handles" field and enter "mwoclient", confirm by pressing Enter, the Image column then lists all active executables accessing the file(s).

Edit: It's in 10, so Win 8 should have it too, you can run it directly from the bottom of the Performance tab in Task Manager.
