When try to take an unit invitation i get an error.
It says your contract time is longer than from the units contract.
Is that a normal procedure?

Yea it happens like this. Basically you need to have the same contract as the unit you are signing up for if you want to join.

For example you have a contract with Clan Wolf for 14 days and want to join [ABCD] who has a 7 day contract with Clan Wolf. Well you need to break your contract, wait for theirs expire, and then see what faction and contract they select next. If [ABCD] renews the 7 day contract with Clan Wolf then all you need to do is get a 7 day contract for Wolf and then you can join their unit. Yes it is a stupid process.

if you want to join a unit it would be best for you not to have any contract.
ether wait for yours to expire or pay to break it,

if you and the unit both have permanent contracts then you should be able to join without breaking a contract, otherwise it would be near impossible for both you and the unit to have a contract expiring at the same time which I believe is a requirement to join a unit with an active contract.
