As Kiiyor alluded to, it's not truly a skill rating. My clan account was at 90% to Tier 2 on Tuesday. So I just grinded my Hellbringer two days and I was up to Tier 2. I'm not a better pilot than before, I just focused more on getting a higher match score for a while. If I had played with my Mist Lynx, I would have a lower rating, but it wouldn't say much about my skills.

And hell, I don't know how much my tier 2 rating says about my skills either.

But I never hide, I just don't rush in headlessly. I pick my targets, distract and do a lot of spotting etc ..... with a whopping 18 alpha, damage was never the reason I really play the game and consider myself a good team player.

And there in the problem, a difference in standard, PGI seems to think ( and are right to an extent ) that dealing damage is the main thing in this arena shooter.... I kinda agree, except I would add value to damage depending where it is applied, but point being as they can't/don't want to try to give intangibles value ( you distract the whole enemy team but do 150 dmg and die but team wins ) they went for the main thing, and damage in a game of attrition makes sense.

Also the Prs is not a gauge of player skill if you think about it, it's a gauge of player competitiveness, most can improve the prs if they only play meta mechs, try hard and play a lot, not stopping when they hit a loss streak till they hit a win streak.

So consider Prs as a sign of what your accomplishments are for the amount of effort and dedication to win you put in.

It's tied to how many games played I've barley scratched 1500 games so even though my KD on my most played mech is 2.0 and my win percentage is 57.91% I'm low Tier 3 so when steam comes, I will feed on steam users and they will create forum posts about how the mm isn't fair.

Why? Because I don't play often enough, yet for playing once or twice a month my stats stay the same. Lol, what do you think would happen if I actually started practicing and giving a damn? I think that's what I'll do on steam release. Since it will come prematurely anyway.

Posted Image

Note: I always play in my Gold DireWolf I'm normally the center of attention every match yet still pull out great DMG and kills. I have my bad games but it's normally when MM is forcing the ELO loss to keep me 50/50 W/L. I also play in group queue with and average team size of 3 so meta try hards is the opposition.

Can't wait to feed on those Steam babies :) thanks for the low Tier cause I don't have "enough" games.

But what do your overall stats look like?

I understand you play mostly this mech and that's s lot of matches in one mech, but the overall story (and PSR) will come from total stats.

Overall, I just want to be at least Tier 3 so I can play with all the people I see on here and know. I figure if I'm tier 4, all the tier 1 players are off limits, and that kinda stinks. Hopefully I hold onto tier 3, but hey, whatever happens, happens.

Tier 3 is worse than tier 4. Tier 3 is where all the rock hiding starts and doesn't go away until you get to tier 2. Tier 3 can be a nightmare. Are you sure you want to go there?

Overall there like this, don't use others that much except the FS or Cata 3d every now and again.
Name Value MechWarrior Credits 12 Kills / Death 3,819 / 2,036 C-Bills 41,834,667 Experience Points 3,951,262 Wins / Losses 2,315 / 2,098 Kill / Death Ratio 1.88

To the OP, if you feel you are a little above average, the way I think it works is that you are a little above average in your tier. Which means you will tread water. Talking about solo PUG here. If everyone who has been playing a while feels a little above average (like I do at T4), then the system is working. If you were in tier 3, you might feel a little below average. Or worse.

Some matches I feel like I am totally outclassed, like totally. Aggressive, coordinated players come out of nowhere and kill me in the first 30 seconds. And I am like sheesh, I hope next match is more people at my skill level. Another match maybe it is people standing around while I core them, and again, I think I hope next match is better. I think since the new system came on line that the matches have been a bit better balanced, but maybe that is just me.

Around the time PSR was announced i started a new account in order to play with a friend who wanted to take a look at MWO.

On my new account i also went right for HBKs as soon as possible. This is interesting for comparison since on both new and main account i was focusing on HBKs, so any differences in mech quality is out of the equation. The result is not what i expected.

Alt account
Spoiler

Michael Abt - main account
Spoiler

My conclusion is simple. Under the old MM ELO hell was real. I was in it. It is somewhat funny that my alt account with an incomplete HBK (not enough cbills & gxp for modules) is seeded higher compared to my main account despite having worse stats.

Working out of my current tier will take a long time since a loss may still drag you down despite being the best on your team in every term. Oh well, challenge accepted.

Yeah. So PSR is truly mysterious.

Your overall stats seem real good too. For comparison, I'm bottom of Tier 2 (very much to my surprise) and for the most part your stats look better than mine. Your KDR is higher, and you have 1100 more matches than I do.

But I have a couple thoughts.

1). How long have you been playing? It occurs to me that the PSR was stated to be based on stats since January of this year, but my stats go all the way back to the last stat reset ( Sept of 2013 I believe?) since I've been playing since Closed Beta. So a smaller percentage of my total stats go into the PSR calc. How does yours compare?

2). I only see two places where my stats exceed yours. My W/L ratio is 1.15 to your 1.1. A relatively small difference, but if W/L is more heavily weighted I may make a difference. Second, average XP per match. Mines 1231 vs your 895. This may meN something or may not... Premium time (which I have used, but not heavily) and things like double XP weekends obviously can skew this... But it's possible the "extra" accomplishments that add to XP in a match play into the PSR enough that this difference is meaningful as well.

3). You die a lot less than I do. As someone noted, this could mean you hide a lot when things look bad. Or, could led just represent a more careful and less aggressive style. Less agressive tends to mean less damage... Yada yada... I'm perhaps over aggressive at times.

All in all it would be nice if we had more info on the Tier calculation. But then again, as long as you feel you are doing well, having fun, and not completely mismAtched one way or the other, it's relatively meaningless.

That's pretty ballsy of you to question how PSR works, coming from a tier 4 especially.

I can't answer your question, because unlike these blowhards trying to tell you how things work I won't try to pretend that I can understand the thinking of the higher powers at PGI, but I can recommend some good reading that might help you feel better about it;

Besides, don't you know the motto around here?

relax. Sit back and enjoy the easy road PGI has placed in front of you. That's what I'm doing down here in Tier 5.

PGI put me here and I am mopping up.

The best players get a lot of kills and deal little damage. PSR will never represent player skill until it takes that into account.
