If we are able to select mechs of different weight classes to Q, we would be able to reduce MM wait times significantly. We can select UP TO 4 mechs of different weight classes. So if you want to be a 1 mech picker, you can still do so.

Eg. At present, you select 1 Hellbringer and Q in the solo Q.
Allow us to select 1 Hellbringer, 1 raven, 1 stormcrow, 1 direwolf to Q in the solo Q. Or 1 hellbringer and 1 stormcrow, if you don't want to play a light or assault mech.

You will still only be bringing 1 mech into battle, but it can be any of the mechs you have selected to Q. The MM will pick whichever weight class it is lacking to form the group.

This makes it easier for the MM to build group compositions while conforming to the 4/4/4/4 rule, significantly reducing the wait time for games to start.

Some of us are willing to play mechs of different weight classes in order to get a faster game. I see this as a win win scenario for everyone involved.

OP's suggestion sounds good.

We could have something similar to the old U.I. version 1 days where there was a 4 mech favorites window on the main page, but with more functionality. Basically pick your 4 favorite mechs (1 of each class) and hit launch. Whichever weight class comes up first, it launches with that mech.

Since lights are almost always the class in demand (and most likely the one getting picked all the time), the formula could be tweaked a bit so each mech slot in the window can be ranked. That way for instance, if you prefer to run heavies, you could plop your favorite heavy in the 1 spot. That tells matchmaker to set priority on a heavy game. Spot 2 could be a medium, so it puts second priority on finding a match needing a medium mech, etc...

I think it could be a nice addition.

Took five minutes to like the two first posts. Worth it.

Great ideas.

You should be able to select *up to* 4 mechs of different weight class. So those who insist on only playing 1 weight class (or 2 or 3) can still do so, they just have to wait longer.

In fact, in the WORST CASE SCENARIO, EVEN if a player insisted on picking 1 mech of 1 weight class, he would STILL get games faster than what is currently going on now, because other ppl are being more flexible, which helps this 1 mech picker too.

Yeah that's right, the worst case scenario of using this idea is better than the best case scenario with our current MM system.

People are just going to complain about not being able to run the one and only mech they want to play.

People that had one mech they wanted to play all the time still could and, as was stated above, they would benefit from shorter wait times as well.

Great idea OP! +1

Yes because leaving only ONE mech chosen will be far too simple for them to do

Another benefit from this idea - maybe it would help for the ongoing team balance issues with MM ?

No, just pick 1 Mech then. With the new 4\4\4\4 ;) rule proposed by the OP, wait times should be way better... LOL ;)

P.S. Perhaps select 4 Mechs, hit go, then vote on Maps and Modes and Boom... truly random game play that makes full 12 man META make-no teams (in Pug) much more difficult. :)

I like it. ;)

Would be fantastic. Especially when just cbill grinding. Good idea OP and I wouldn't think this would be too difficult to implement.

I really think you have something here. Very good Idea.
So how do we get the devs to give us their penny's worth?

Should also let you press search for match when you die and leave the current match so that it picks from your remaining 3 mechs that are not locked in.

There is something strange going on here.
Where are the flamers? Where are the naysayers? Where poopers? The haters? The instigaters? The candle stick makers?
