So I bought a new laptop since I am travelling a lot now, and wanted to play games while I was away. Nice machine, and no problems with it.

Had MWO installed, and was playing regularly on it. Then at some point maybe a week ago, it just stopped working. I would get to the login screen, put in my PW, click Login, then I would brielfy get the "Connecting..." graphic, then a black screen and a couple seconds later the cursor would appear, which I could move around, but not do anything else.

I can kill the process by right click on the taskbar.

Now, this happened pretty much out of nowhere. It *might* have been associated with the pre-Kodiak patch, but I can't be sure since when I am at home I play on the home PC anyway.

I tried a lot of stuff. I re-downloaded the various flavors of DX executables that I've seen recommeneded. I re-downloaded the Visual C++ runtimes. I deleted MWO from my laptop, and re-installed from scratch, this time using the Steam version.

Updated graphics card, tried turning off Nvidia GForce Experience.

Tried changing the

r_DXVersion="DX9"

in the game.cfg file from DX11 to AUTO to DX9. Made no difference.

Tried deleting the shader directory, no difference.

Same result every time.

There are some error messages in the Omicron log file, but i am not sure what they are telling me:

Thanks Iron, I sent them an email and a support got back to me, which is nice.

Of course, they are making the same suggestions that have already been made, but that have not helped - reinstalling iretX and MS VC++ runtime, etc., etc.

I am pretty sure that is the likely problem - I have a version of these tools that are "too new". Kind of surprised that could be a problem though, and surprised that more people would not be having the same problem if that is actually the case.

You know...looking at those errors in the log you posted... did you also install a new version of flash ?

First, Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Performance. Nvidia control panel, 3D, Power Management mode, change Adaptive to Max Performance.

After an issue I had with an install of mine, which that same install would run okay on 2 different OS on the same machine, lets look at your pilot profile in the saved game directory. For me my attributes.xml had become corrupted. The height/width had beem corrupted to where the numbers were it was 13x the system resolution.

So just FYI, removing the game does not remove nor delete the info in the Saved Games folders. Click on the Folder/Windows Explorer option in task bar. Click on your log in name to expand that part, where you will see documents, videos, etc, locate Saved games, Mechwarrior Online, Profiles, Pilot name folder.

Start off simply by either renaming Berkut, such as Berkutx folder so game can recreate new folder/files when you log into the game.
