Well I am going to start building my own PC. I am looking for $1,000-$1,500 budget. I figured my first decision would be on what case I want. I want a modular, mid tower case with good air cooling. I would rather not get a plan case if I could help it. So far these are the ones I like:

Case Budget is $100
1) Corsair Vengeance C70
2) NZXT Phantom 410
3) Carbide Series Spec 03
4) CyberPowerPC CS-446-104
5) DIYPC Ranger R5 B
6) Apevia x-hermes
7) Cooler Master HAF 912
8) RAIDMAX Viper GX
9) DeepCool Kendomen
10) Cougar MX200
11) Corsair 300r

I will be buying parts over time, since I do not have the money to buy all right now.
My goal is to put a GTX970 in it, only 1 optical bay required and I would like it to be both wireless and lan. So after the case, the next purchase would be a PSU.

Either of those Corsair cases is probably good to go. I'm also a fan of the HAF 912 (there's one sitting about 10 feet away from me) and that NZXT case.

If you're building this over time, you'll probably be aiming for a GTX 1060 or 1070. The 1060 will be $250 at launch and leaked benchmarks already show it faster than the 970 while using less energy.

I highly recommend Seasonic PSUs and PSUs OEMed from Seasonic. On your budget, there's very little reason not to.

C70 all the way. I've bought 10+ of them for builds for other people and have 3 for my own PCs. Solid case with great space for a mid-tower. You can run air or H100i water if you want easily.

And agree with xWiedX - you want to go GTX 1070 b/c of more modern DX12 card which will hold you over for 3-5 years.

PSU/CPU's are 2 things you want solid in your build. Definitely go with a K unlocked CPU. I trust Corsair PSU emphatically.

My vote is haf series from cooler master... But they are expensive

(I have purchased multiple HAF X cases for multiple builds, and everyone is very happy with it)

Thanks for the input guys. It was hard choice between the HAF and the C70. I decided to go with the C70 because the more I stared at it the more I started thinking about customizing the case. Originally I was only going to build the computer, but now I am going to customize the case also, both of which will be firsts for me.

This will be built over time and like I said, I have never done either of these before. I pick the case up on Friday. I got it from Micro Center for $119.00 and a $20 rebate so I hit my budget mark of $100. I will spend the next month customizing the case, or attempting too, then I will start my build.

Should I get a PSU next? I am thinking I want a 750 to run the GTX 1060 or 1070 that Wired brought up.

You don't need more than 550W. In fact, even for a GTX 1080 you don't actually need more than 550W. I installed an 80PLUS Platinum modular Seasonic in my system with the intent of adding a second 980, but will be going with a single 1080 as an upgrade instead. Now I'm kinda wondering why I even bought such a 'big' PSU.

Get a nice Seasonic PSU in the 550-650W range, modular of course, that sits in the 80PLUS gold or higher bracket. These are the best PSUs out there.

That is an awesome paint job. Love the "Kilroy"

Are you going to label the front i/o? (USB, Power, Reset) and maybe the Rear Exhaust(Caution:Hot)?

Definitely cool looking though.

Darqs, thanks. I started to label the front like you stated, but was not happy with the results. I also tried to label the intakes and exhaust but was not happy with how they turned out either. I plan on trying again after more practice.

Next up a Power supply. Below are the ones I am thinking about. All are ATX, full modular and 80+ Gold. Any suggestions?

1. SeaSonic SS-750KM
2. Corsair RM750i
3. Corsair R650i
4. SeaSonic SS-750KM3
5. Corsair RM650
6. SeaSonic SS-650KM3
7. SeaSonic SS-650KM
8. Corsair R750
9. Corsair RM 550
10. Corsair RM750x
11. Corsair RM650x
12. Corsair RM550x

I check out JonnyGuru for reviews of whichever power supply you choose. Generally speaking, any Seasonic and newer Corsair should be fine.

As for required wattage, that depends on the rest of the system. An i7-6700k and GTX 1080, even overclocked, don't require anything more than around 500W. Even if you go X99 and SLI, 750W should be more than enough.

I would pick a semi or fully modular from Corsair whatever is cheaper. I standby Corsair power supplies, I have a HX620 that's a decade old in a computer that still runs today. Full Mod PSUs are good if you decide to buy some custom cables like Cable Mod.

I made a part list for what's left within your budget, I would definitely recommend buying a GTX 1000 series, pretty much all the 1000s beat their predecessors.

If you're willing to spend $100-150 like it looks like based off this list... this is the power supply for you. You could also go with the 760W one instead of the 660W one if you think you'll definitely be pursuing SLI down the road.
