Quick opinion poll, give a very small chance to get one of the thousands of unsold gold mechs out of a supply cache?

And would it get you to buy keys?

Uh ?

Hmmm ...

I'd say "no", there is enough useless vanity items ingame as it is ... but the collector sleeping in my brain would love that ...

That said, if the only difference for those 'mechs is the paintjob, I could see it.

BTW, where did you get the "thousand of unsold gold 'mechs" bit ? As far as I know, those were a reward for backing the Beta with a huge amount of money, but they aren't physical items, so there could be as few as zero or as many as billions depending on a few lines of code ...

No, Gold 'Mechs are a status symbol, nothing more. I don't have any--but the people that dropped $500 to get them laid claim to a little piece of uniqueness. I think it takes away from their purchase to have them raffled off in gamble boxes.

Edit: There weren't thousands of unsold, maybe tens at most. Most of them sold out.

I'd be ok with it! I mean it's not like us gold pilots even play anymore right? We wouldn't even know they did it!

Yup I was ok with that too! I would have bought 4 if it was unlocking gold for each weight class.

I actually love that Idea. It wouldnt take anything away from Gold mech owners, but it may drive MC sales for spins to win a silver mech with 30% cbil. Its a win win for both PGI and the player base.

There's no reason to implement some real premium colors as an one shot and giving it a 30% cbill bonus

A mech version I don't want in silver is not going to make so much money
But if I could get a color with cbill boost that I can slap on every mech I want that's completely different

Edit:
I don't even mind giving gold (as a color) out as a one shot item
Gold mech owners might be fine if you just can't apply them to the first wave mechs
I'd love a golden king crab or ebony jaguar
Or silver

But I'd still rather have the color

Nah, being able to apply 30%cbil boost to any mech devalues all other 30% cbill mechs.

Hero's are meant to be different and not better
It's not demeaning

Also how about you buy a hero and apply the color with 30% bonus
Why not let it stack?
And with premium
With that kind of earning potential they might actually sell that stuff

In both cases it's an investment of hard cash to farm an imaginary digital currency that's not worth anything

If I remember correctly, all those "best" Omnis (such as Mad Cat, etc.) were sold out.

And wasting real money on some miniscule chance to get golden Uller ... LOL No.

Would be nice as an event - maybe 5 gold mechs to be won/handed out with ridiculous winning conditions :P

Agreed. Something unique but not gold mechs, in respect of collectors of gold mechs.

Maybe unique color or pattern in the crates?

Never going to happen, but if it did I would want the ability to sell my precious Golden mech back for $250 worth of cbills.

A color only getable by caches... might make more people angry than happy. As with decals for the same matter it might be a problem. And if you are lucky enough, what should be done if you win it again? You would spend 25MC and 50k C-Bills for nothing. At least if they don't make it an else-condition. If you don't it already, get the color/whatever, else get MC.

But colors might be way more reasonable than camos or something like that. As camos are chassis specific or in case of a "new" camo that is applied to multiple chassis it is too much work. In the dev streams you can see that every chassis gets its own "version" of the camo. It takes time which is most likely better spent for making new mechs look good or giving older mechs more of the camos people love.

As for gold mechs... "no!!!". The value of those mechs would drop and if the persons who bought it were pissed afterwards, I would totally understand it. It is something unique only a few people have. Like the Founder title. I don't think they would be happy if you could win it in a cache...
I own neither a gold mech nor a founder title and am totally ok with that Posted Image

You're absolutely right, I did not thought about the possibility to win again this "unique" prize...
An "alternative" big prize (like 5.000 MCa) if you already own the special color could be the solution but I do not know if it's easy to implement.

Dude, they are not physically restricted. They are not rotting in PGIs cellar by the thousands. And no i would not buy keys because of gold mechs.
