I've got $200 for an upgrade on my rig. I know mw:o is cpu intensive more than gpu or so it would seem reading various threads in gen discussion sub forum. I'm wondering which of the three components would most likely get higher fps on low or mid settings. I want a minimal fps of 30. Anything over 30 fps I'll take.

I can get one $200 upgrade of memory,cpu or video card. Original bought in 2012 I've done no upgrades to it yet. My rig's specs:

ibuypower chimera inferno 4 gaming case

motherboard= asus m5a97 r2.0 amd 970

video card= amd radeon hd 7870 2bg (one card cross fire capable)

pc memory= 8bg (4 gb x 2) ddr3-1866 mhz

cpu=amd fx-8150 8 x 3.60ghz/8mb l2 cache

power supply=650 watt nzxt hale82n

Get a high clockspeed FX-8350 or 8370.

You wait a few weeks, get a GTX 1050, maybe even the Ti model; That should free up enough wattage to overclock the CPU.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer 120 74.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($60.99 @ Newegg)
Case Fan: Antec SPOTCOOL Fan

I don't know why there's no price for teh SpotCool, but you'll need ~$14 for it. You point it at the VRM on the motherboard.

No garenttee the radiator will fit in your case …

Save your money. Upgrading an outdated AMD system like this is a waste. Get a bigger budget, target an Intel-based system, and never look back.

Thanks for the advice. The parts list is very helpful. As for going intel over amd I went with amd at the time because of lower budget. When it comes to new rigs I prefer Intel as all my past rigs were Intel except for my first pc which was my father's Commodore 64.

I'll have to save up and wait for x-mas deals. I'm checking out the EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 and I like it. Just not sure if it would pair well with the cpu. I should be able to mix intel and amd or is it best to go straight one vs the other? It's been years since I last tried to build a pc back when win 98se was a thing. A friend of mine and I use to take apart our parents old pcs and try and mix and match parts. We blew up a lot of parts but then they were cheap as dirt compared to today's prices.

That 7870 should still be OK for a Single 1080P, & 2x4GB 1866mhz should still be enough, therefore I'd Put that $200 into a Intel CPU. You Might be able to Find a Old i5 & Mobo for it cheap on Craigslist or ebay or Something. if you can try to Aim for a i5-2500k & a z68 or z77 Motherboard Minimum. if you don't see anything in your price range don't be afraid to post a Wanted ad to see what Offers you get.
