So, every time a map is improved, you have the same chorus of "love it, hate it, where's the old one blah blah blah."
I like the new revisions, certainly, and sometimes miss the old. WIth the new Terra Therma dropping, I've seen the same tired old complaints popping up like crazy, which gave me an idea.
Some players have requested that old maps be put back into circulation, which is an ok idea, but not great. They mostly suffered from small size and predictable gameplay (while the improved maps just have predictable gameplay to deal with). So I got to thinking, if the two main problems with old maps is that they were too small and that players always went to the same places to fight, what if PGI took those old maps (I know they still have to exist somewhere) and stitched a few of them together? Two, three or four, depending on what works best on the technical side, you could just overlap the borders of X numbers of old maps, polish up that transition area, and effectively allow players to play the nostalgia, have a larger area, and reduce predictability as it would now be a toss up between where on the larger geographic area that the teams would end up coming into contact with each other. Spawn points could be randomized to place teams in any of the spawn points of any of the number of maps stitched together.
Seems like a way to make people happy with minimal effort....and you wouldn't have to worry about "visual improvements" because, hey, nostalgia!

What maps can be stitched together without looking ridiculous? Name some. Cause I am drawing blank here.

doesn't matter if it looks ridiculous...although I'm sure a little work in the transition area would do wonders. You could look at it like the mythical solaris everyone keeps asking about....move from one environment to another just like moving from arena to another. Besides, all of them had some sort of open feature...think the water at one end of river city matching up to the water at the open end of forest colony. The rocky hills at the airport end of river city could transition to the foothills of caustic...so on and so forth. Depending on how they are arranged (side by side, end to end, or in a big square) there could be passes created in the hills to allow passage. This move would be less about immersion anyway, and more about providing larger, more random experience to the playerbase.

As far as I'm concerned, every day is Festivus.

I actually love this idea! And not just for old maps, but also for some new ones, or mixes of old and new!
Oh I could see Polar highlands leading into Alpine peaks, leading into old Frozen city.. (Minor stitching needed)
Or Canyon leading into Crimson Strait, leading into River City (Minor stitching and water color normalization needed)
Or Grim Plateau leading into Grim Portico.. (Minor stitching needed)
This is an awesome idea! As long as you don't mix ridiculous maps together, like HPG with River city or Forest Colony with Grim Plateau..
Although, it does not solve the problem that this game needs more new maps..
