I have seen many posts lately by newer players complaining about the old veterans complaining.

So I just wanted to re-post this gem. This will show you the tip of the ice berg of what started MWO on the downward spiral of saltiness that we have now.

That vid still kills me... All this talk about what they were working on in that vid and it was all vaporware, as we fond out later they never started on Faction Warfare and were not planning to until they had their license renewal... but strung us along with their 90 days/soon promises. This vid is still one of the reason I really do not trust Russ and company.

I'm a huge fan of negativity and spite, but... I don't think it's really necessary to start a new thread just to 'showcase' a disappointing video from three years ago. Even if it is still valid, this is a forum - A place of discussion. Where's the discussion value in this, beyond rabble rousing?

Jumpship travel time, garrisoning planets, a dynamic player influenced economy. Man, what this game could have been if they came through with their promises.

This is why I always say, I don;t really care if PGI does not do anything I ask them to. I just want them to do what they said they would.

Expect nothing from PGI and Russ in particular, and you will be a happy MWO player. Or at least happier.

I used to care about the fact that they were untrustworthy, bad at their jobs, and seemed to only care about selling mech packs and a minimally viable product. Then I simply stopped caring that they were likely bad people, stopped giving them money, and walked away. Now I can come back and enjoy the game for what it is for short spurts, and not take it so seriously.

Just play the game, or don't, accept what you can't change, and I promise you'll have a much more enjoyable experience.

The player numbers never materialised to fund the development. Simple economics. They had the option of scaling back the ambition or giving up and looking for anither game to work on. They chose the former. Not a bad choice.

Well its going to be amusing to rezombify this thread in December. It would be a good comparison and benchmark. For all those new players out there who say this game is still wonderful and wonder why, its best to know where and what was promised at the beginning to really know how far its come.

Not true

http://www.crowdfund...refund-process/

They tried the latter..... however their reputation is really not that great..... so they had to stick with the only thing they had.

To me, it's important because PGI is probably preparing a similar presentation for Mech Con. Most likely, they'll have a "huge announcement" and they will talk about the future of MWO. Obviously, their intent is to keep us invested in the game and make us spend more money.

So whatever PGI is going to say during the Mech Con presentation, it's worth remembering the presentation by Bryan Ekman 3 years ago. Especially the fact that they never went out and said "Actually, we're not going to do X and Y, even though we wanted to. Here's why and here's our new focus". They may present a vision for Solaris, then deliver only 10% of what they originally described before they stop developing, and they will never actually explain or acknowledge that fact.

What you describe is worthy of discussion - Comparing previous big announcements with current expectations, and whether its appropriate to continue to expect the same garbage, or if there's a reason to hope for better.

But that's not really what is in the OP though, is it?

I'm pretty sure that is called "it's too hard", while doing the bare minimum.

There's this term bandied about... minimally something... something viable... somethin' somethin'. I forget.

Glad I went to the open bar that started right when that presentation went on instead of standing around and listening to bs...I guess I was already a bittervet at that point.

Didn't some of that launch video include our balance overlord playing Tetris or something? Obviously we need to balance for the Tetris piece!

Yeah, I guess not. But if one asked what the discussion value was, I would say that relating that video to current events is interesting.

And as much as I try to avoid purely negative threads, there's definitely some value in providing historical context, even if you focus only on the negative or only on the positive. I mean, 99% of MWO players will not be aware of all the features Bryan mentioned in that video, so it's sometimes hard to understand why people are super disappointed. You see someone ask something like "When did PGI ever promise you the stuff you keep talking about?", because it just looks like MWO players themselves created a lot of hype out of nothing.

After almost 5 years (logged on within minutes of closed beta server going live) Its been a slow crawl for everything not new mech related. the last 2 years PGI has really redirected their efforts to a better direction, but Still pushing mechs entirely too hard- almost seems desperate........10 +/- a few basic death match maps and a handful more faction maps.......but literally 1000's of mechs new ones every few weeks........

LOL the simple challenge of keeping 60FPS with crazy overclocked 5.0ghz AMD 8 core rigs is what kept me here for years. I now have a rig that will run anything smooth and this game is still crapping on it. the newest map has seen my rig an all time low of 24FPS the lowest of ANY GAME PLAYED SINCE GTX970 came out. it literally kicks the crap out of your hardware @ the end of a match spiking to 100% sometimes causing crashes. Thrash baby Thrash.

The pure potential of this game has kept me here for the latter part of my MWO experience.....watching it turn into micro transaction hell is what makes me have mixed feelings. - Maps are free to us, mechs are not, makes sense...........spend their time making us pump quarters in...............

It feels alot like work, It was something you loved once, but the bad pay, ****** ppl, and the **** show that is ELO has left me wanting.......
