I never understood why mechs like these weren't chicken walkers.

Imagine how pretty it would be!

Because digitigrade ("double-knee") and reverse-joint ("chicken-walker") legs are generally less stable and less efficient in terms of load-bearing in bipedal instances than forward-knee ("man-walker") legs.
What they offer in return, though, is generally-superior acceleration and top-end speed.
For the short version of more, see here.

And for something like the Fafnir, which has a very high CG (relative to its height) and a need to deal with substantial recoil from the HGRs, stability and load-bearing ability are paramount and thus "man-walker" legs are pretty much the only viable choice.

Devastator is probably my favorite mech all-time, though I prefer to modify it with some Jump Jets in my tabletop experience, even without them it's a beast and a half.

Other than the fact that it was built pre-3050 though, I don't think it has a strong chance of making it into the game. It's not an iconic design per-se, and we already have a 100 ton mech. I do hope that *someday* the Devastator, and for that matter, all the other Norse-Storm battlemechs manage to make it into the game someday (Spector is probably my second favorite mech of all time), all the Norse-Storm designs are very solid, focused and capable designs.

I'd like to see the Cyclops next. Seems like the ideal mech for the commander role. Besides that, I'd guess we'll see the Highlander or Banshee.

The devestators XL engine means its not going to be a huge threat on the field long.

If you look at mechs that are conteperorarys, like a Atlas II, it doesn't seem that special.

The Devastator is from Hardware Hanbook 3058, so theres no way it will make it into the game now. Yea I know there are some Variants dating back to 3036 but they are realy realy scarce.
I'm hoping for the Banshee. Especialy for the BNC-3S.

+1 vote for the Pillager, largely because its cockpit looks like something from Aliens.

What about a nice little Charger? It can be a fast Scout (1A1, 1L) a tough Brawler (1A5, SB) or a mix of everything (1A9) ! ;-)

The DVS-2, which is the main configuration shown in TRO 3058 was first put into production in 3048. While it probably wouldn't be considered common after a 1 year run, it WAS available at the time MWO is taking place, and in the main configuration with 2 gauss, 2 ppc and 4 medium lasers.

I'd like to see a Cyclops... They are meant to have command mechs in at some time, So it makes sense to have the Cyclops!

The Devastator is not mentioned in random assignment tables for 3052. I think that would indicate not being a common mech for deployment during the Clan invasion.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd rather much want to see a Timber Wolf (Mad Cat) in here as soon as they start bringing out new mechs. To me, mechwarrior just isn't mechwarrior without them. That's my opinion though.

The Devastor - without XL-could become a zombie...look at this huge side torsos...and then look at those tiny CT.

Did i already mentioned that we need less armor on the legs - and more armor at the side torsos?
Did i already mentioned that we need more than 8 hit zones?
